I'm so desperate for some transfer news now, the club looks like it's falling apart at the seams. I'm not really taking Barton's rants into account either, Barton/Nolan/Jose etc seemed to have formed a click and it's only natural that, if they start to challenge authority or have too much of a say, the management will look to break people up.

We've made some good signings but after the Pardew quote recently about signing only one more player I'm seriously worried that we'll sign someone of Erdinc's quality and that'll be it. I quite like what I've seen of Erdinc but we need two top class strikers, not one half decent one. It's looking more and more likely that Barton and Jose will be away and I'm not totally confident that they'll be replaced.

I'm not a pessimist, I'm usually reasonable and I've never been one to hop on the anti-Ashley bandwagon but I've never been this tense before a new season before. Things just don't seem right.

Sorry to be uncharacteristically downbeat but just wanted to get everyone else's views on our pre-season and expectations for the upcoming season.

How does everyone feel?

 

I feel the same as you about it all mate, I have serious worries about this season. I know Colo is captain but we need a proper leader to come forward otherwise we are ****ed.

Pre-season has been the usual dull affair and I just want the new season to start.

I think we need to realise that we won't get top quality strikers with our wage cap and only 10 million budget (supposedly). But then again it's Newcastle, anything can happen!

I've just said on another thread that I expect Colo to be sold. Make him captain, everyone's happy. The usual course of action for the powers that be at NUFC would be to make everyone unhappy, so they'll flog him for peanuts to a Spanish club.

Newcastle United are my club and always will be, but I'm glad I support Blyth Spartans who won't make me thoroughly miserable!

I think Cabaye is miles better than Nolan and i think he could be our captain in a couple of seasons. He's not just creative, intelligent and quick, he's hard working, strong and mentally aggressive, and in contrast to Nolan, he has the ability to back his mental attitude up.

Cabaye is as tough as Nolan and Barton, and has great ability in attacking and defending. He saved us from conceding an extra 2 with last ditch tackles yesterday.

I'm sick of people saying that we've lost strength in Nolan, we have, but Cabaye is still a strong player, aggressive and far more technical. We have not lost any steel, and we've gained more ability.

What we need now is another striker to compliment our midfield.

Stop worrying about pre-season. Arsenal 2-2 Boca Juniors, Hull 3-0 Liverpool, Burnley 1-0 Sunderland.

We're not having a bad pre-season. Young players and fringe players are doing quite well, players are getting a chance to shine or show their true colours.

It pains me to say it, but I agree with you.

 

See I think Cabaye is gonna be real treat, there's definitely something about his play that looks like he could grow into the Premier League very quickly. My biggest concern is first team quality, especially if HBA and Ba get injured.

 

Why does it pain you to say it?

 

We only have depth in midfield, which is worrying when you look at our defence and attack. Average strikers apart from Ba and Best and no real LB back up, doesn't look promising.

 

My only concern is in attack. Ba looks good, but i still think Best is our best striker tbh.

I think we need 1 more striker AT LEAST. We could do with 2 more.

 

Because usually you are extremely Biased, but there you made the points I've been thinking for a while.
