Admittedly it is a little less compelling than what the championship could be, but seeing as how nearly every team has already pulled in development this season, it's probably the closest fight we'll get. It's the DHL Fastest Lap Award and unlike the championship, Vettel isn't even close at the moment. Let me give you a rundown on the tally so far: Sebastian Vettel = 1 (Valencia) Fernando Alonso = 1 (Silverstone(for the second year in a row)) Jenson Button = 1 (Montreal) Felipe Massa = 2 (Melbourne, Budapest) Lewis Hamilton = 3 (Barcelona, Nurburgring, Monza) Mark Webber = 5 (Sepang, Shanghai, Istanbul, Monte Carlo, Spa-Francorchamps) At the moment, it looks to be a straight fight between Webber and Hamilton which means everyone on here (except Fernando and Jenson fans) should be happy. Upcoming tracks that should favour the McLaren are Yas Marina, New Delhi (maybe), and Interlagos (maybe) Upcoming tracks that should favour the Red Bull are Marina Bay, Suzuka, Yeongam and maybe New Delhi and Interlagos. Once Vettel ties up the championship he's go all out for this one In theory Webbers car has the best chance, but a recovering Hamilton could well get it. If Ferrari really have given up that will make Massa's slim chance even slimmer.
I think it will depend on what strategies they are all one; if they are on one with a short final stint or they use the option tyres in their last stint then they have got a good chance of getting it. Vettel seems to like getting fastest laps but he does not seem to actually get that many even though he sometimes actively tries to get it like last year at Suzuka where he put in the fastest lap on the last lap only for Webber to better it on his final lap.
Just to stop him getting the holy trinity of PP, victory and FL. But sometimes he does try really hard like in Hungary last year he backed off as he couldn't pass Alonso just to give himslef the clean air he needed. If Raikkonen was still here this thread would be rendered pointless .
