He could hardly be described as a 'missionary' in any religious sense. Hans-Max/Joan Gamper, born in Switzerland and credited with being the main driving force in the formation of Barcelona FC (along with Pere Cabot, Enric Ducal, Otto Kunzle, Otto Maier, Josep Llobet, LluÃs d'Ossó, John Parsons, William Parsons, Carles Pujol, Bartomeu Terradas and Gualteri Wild), was a businessman and entrepreneur. He also happened to be a member of the Swiss Evangelical Church. Notably, in 1925, during an international match against England, Catalan fans jeered the Spanish national anthem following which the dictator Prima de Rivera (apparently a fan of Real Madrid), accused Joan Gamper of promoting Catalan nationalism and closed Barcelona's stadium (then El Camps dels Corts) for six months. In 1930, at age 52, Joan Gamper allegedly committed suicide, attributed to depression, brought on by personal and money problems. He is buried in Cementiri del Sud-oest or Cementiri de Montjuïc (Montjuic Cemetary) which is situated on Montjuïc Hill, Barcelona. As we all know, of course, money problems can have disastrous consequences for individuals ... and institutions.
That one is awaiting a decision from a tribunal of the country's leading legal minds. Could end up with only one title more if justice is to be done. Have to laugh at media pundits who keep telling us that nothing has been proven yet. Sorry, but it has. HMRC originally found rfc guilty of tax evasion. What is going on now is an appeal, thus so Something has very much been proved.
