STOKE CITY have today confirmed that they will not be offering a new contract to their former skipper Abdoulaye Faye.

The 33-year-old Senegalese international defender has left the Britannia Stadium at the end of his third season with the Club.

Faye joined City from Newcastle United shortly after the start of their first campaign in the Premier League in 2008 and quickly emerged as an influential figure in the Club's battle to stay in the top-flight of English football.

As well as being handed the captain's armband, he was also named Player of the Year at the end of that 2008-09 season.

But in more recent times, Faye has been frustrated by injury problems and his first team opportunities were limited by the solid partnership Ryan Shawcross and Robert Huth formed at the heart of City's defence.

"Abdy's contribution to getting the Club where it is today should never be under-estimated," said manager Tony Pulis.

"He loved playing for this Football Club and the supporters loved him, so in many respects it is sad to see him move on.

"But we are moving forward as a Club and unfortunately there are times when you have to make tough decisions that allow you to bring in the new faces which can improve the squad, and this is obviously one of them."

He added: "We would like to thank Abdy for his contribution over the past three years and wish him well in the future."
