FORMER Stoke skipper Abdoulaye Faye and fellow defender Ibrahima Sonko are the only definite departures from the Britannia Stadium this summer, The Sentinel can reveal.

But the odds on John Carew remaining for next season are also lengthening as manager Tony Pulis reviews his summer spending plans.

Fringe trio Michael Tonge, Andrew Davies and Tom Soares remain on the books, at least for now, as all three have another 12 months left on their current deals.

Carew's future whereabouts could drag on for several weeks as Pulis keeps his options open, while the Norwegian international waits to see what alternative interest materialises here and in Europe.

The 31-year-old striker, who signed on loan from Aston Villa in January, becomes a free agent at the end of June.

He bagged two goals in his nine starts and four substitute appearances at Stoke to leave the jury out on the prospects of a long-term deal.

The club's reluctance to speak about a new contract, together with the manager's desire for fresh pace and guile in attack, suggests Carew will remain surplus to his long-term requirements.

Faye, meanwhile, leaves under a slight cloud following his absence from the final game of the season and Monday evening's annual awards dinner.

The Senegal international, player-of-the-year after his debut season two years ago, has long been heading towards the exit door after making just three league appearances since November.

Sonko, who has spent the past season on loan at Portsmouth, leaves after seven starts and six sub appearances in the Premier League for Stoke since his £2m move from Reading three seasons ago.

Tonge has previously signed a one-year extension to his original three-year deal, while Soares and Davies have 12 months left on four-year agreements.

Pulis has consistently tried to move Davies on and sanctioned a loan spell back at old club Middlesbrough earlier this year.

Tonge and Soares are likely to remain until August, at least, to cover for any gaps before this summer's new signings bed in.
