Looking at the apple selection in ASDA yesterday I noticed apples from Holland, France, Spain, South Africa, USA and Chile and bizzarely, the cheapest were from Chile, can someone explain how it's cheaper to grow and ship something over 7,000 miles than it is to do so from Holland?
I have a basic understanding of exchange rates, labour costs etc. but it still doesn't make sense that apples can cost less than 15p each when they travel 7,000+ miles, yet cost over 20p each when coming in from the EU.
