In either '75 or '76 we played them in an F.A. cup replay at our place.. Great match - they had Shilton in goal and we won 2-1. Not so much the match that makes it memorable, but RUNNING with my mates to the old Brewery Tap for the best bottle of Double Max I ever tasted! Happy days! x
Now then... RUNNING to the Tap, fits nicely with the GNR this Sunday. It's Shilton's birthday on Sunday, nice fit. So I'll go for a 2-1 result
I agree Bobby...If I remember correctly we drew the first game down at their place 0-0, and there was about 12,000 Sunderland fans there...The replay was a night match with close to 50,000 at the game and a terrific atmosphere..
Easy, 71st minute at home on Sunday 18th when Bendy fires in our third goal to make it 3-0. Now that will be a memory
No but iwas pissed at the game lol i just thought i would count the busses that left the coach park and when i got to 40 i thought ****ing hell thats a lot so kept on counting
Feb 18th. 1976. Home attendance - 47,583. At Stoke 4 days earlier, 41,176 (not shabby). Team; Monty/ Dicky/ Joe, Joe, Joe Bolton/ Tony, Tony Towers (England!)/ Clarke (Jeff, not the b*****d Lee)/Moncur/ The Little General/ Ashurst (not Len - Jackie)/ Mel/ Pop/ Finney. Goals; Mel (5 points me) and Pop. I'm here all week. x
the last game of the season i remember playing them early 1980s and we had to win to stay up and we won 2-0, can't remember who scored but the atmosphere at roker park was bouncing as always
I recall a game in the sixties at Roker - we won 4-0 .... horses for courses.... the lads usually do well at home to the potters...
If we win 3-0 I think Bruce will get his belly out and do the truffle shuffle in front of the north stand.
I Bobby, but there was around 12,000 of us down their ground, they brought about 3 men and his dog up for for the replay..
My favourite Stoke game? '11, when we were 3-0 up by half time, it turned our season around and we finished 4th.
