Playing Wycombe in the JPT reminds me of my favourite City goal - we were playing at home to Wycombe in what was then called the LDV Vans Trophy. Scott Murray was in excellent form at the time. He got the ball in the inside left position, looked up and chipped the keeper (at the East End). Personally i love a chipped goal - I was chuffed to read recently that this was Scott's favourite goal as well - apparently a Wycombe fan was winding him up for most of the game, but I think Scott won the argument!! My other favourite was David Noble's first goal against Rotherham when we clinched promotion (7 yeras ago?). I was right behind the trajectory of the ball and knew it was in well before it hit the back of the net. What's your favourite goals and why?
Favourite goal..... Hmmmm I have 3 1. Marvin Elliotts in his first season against Stoke, Which we won 1-0. He smashed that in and those were the days when we were good 2. JET's against the Gas. Couldn't of asked for a better start and you couldn't of asked for a better goal. 3. Lee Trundles goal against Palace in the 2nd leg of the Semis. Magic night and since then we haven't had one
Junior Bent away at Swindon. Ran from the half way line and scored in a 2-1 win Bob Taylor's 4 goals against Swansea away in a 5-0 win Donnie Gillies goal that beat Leeds at Elland Road in the 5th round of the FA Cup (replay) in '74 Clive Whitehead scoring to beat Portsmouth 1-0 at AG and send us to the 1st Division
Paul Cheeseley's against Arsenal in '76 - superb cross and magnificent header. Don't really see many like that nowadays unless you support Southampton. Nicky Maynard's against QPR - if Messi had scored that goal you would never have heard the end of it!
As above Maynard's goal against QPR Super Bobs third against Crewe where he volleyed it from distance but injured himself in the process. And Scott Murrey's goal against Bury where it looked like he beat everyone on a run to score.
Big John Atyeo away at Villa in FA Cup 1957 when on a mudheap and in driving rain, he hit a left foot screamer at the Holte End from about thirty yards that just thundered into the roof of the net. City lost 1-2 against the eventual FA Cup winners.
Just remembered one - Ivan Sproule's goal against Southampton - last minute their keeper up for a corner - ball came out to Ivan and he was off
