All, Christmas is a time for a bit of nostalgia, and I have just been on a YouTube journey that got me thinking. What are your favourite games from these different eras: Lawrie McMenemy Gordon Strachan Nigel Adkins Mauricio Pochettino Laurie Mac: Easy! May 1st 1976 WGS: Saints 3 Pompey 0 Nigel Adkins: Saints 3 MK Dons 2 Mo Po: Saints 3 Man City 1 What are your best games? No 7
I'll have to go from WGS onwards due to my youth. Strachan: FA Cup Final. Great experience although we lost. Adkins: Saints 4-0 Coventry and following pitch invasion. Oh and 3-2 win at Millwall and the 3-1 win at QPR. I was at all 3 and can't choose between them. Pochettino: Saints 3-1 Man City
Not the best display but Millwall 2-3 Saints under Adkins always stands out. The 3-0 win over Boro at home was class too. Under Pochettino, I'd say the 3-1 home win over Liverpool.
Hmm, good question. Ted Bates Frankly, it's all a blur..! Possibly Saints 3 West Ham 3, but probably only because I actually remember it. Was a good game though. Lawrie Mac: Yes, I suppose it has to be the FA Cup Final Chris Nicholl: Saints 3 Liverpool 1 That bloke: Saints 2 Newcastle 1 Stuart Gray: The last PL game at the Dell Saints 3 Arsenal 2 WGS: Saints 3 Pompey 0 Paul Sturrock: Man City 1 Saints 3 Alan Pardew The JPT Final inevitably. Nigel Adkins: Saints 3 Boro 0 Mo Poch: Saints 2 Fulham 0 [I think] Can't think of any others for each manager, off the top of my head. Probably think of loads after I've posted.
I'm not sure why people look back on the MK victory so fondly. We should have been better to be honest.
TSS - was the Newcastle 2-1 the Matty game? The other 2-1 vs Newcastle I loved at The Dell was the comeback - Maddison then Tiss in injury time. Not sure who that was under though...don't think it was he who shall not be named. Also the Valentines 4 goaler against Liverpool. Again, can't remember which manager that was!
For Rickie it's just a reasonably good day at the office. Almost normal. For someone like Begovic, it's exceptional, it was very windy, and the keeper down the other end was a right duffer.
I agree, but I can't remember ever putting my back out and cutting my knee on the seat in front before whilst celebrating a goal! And after so many years as a Saints fan I think that was the moment I began to believe that we were embarking on something quite special. That is why I remember that game
