I've not lived in Hull for many years and I have to admit my knowledge of boozers is very localised to where I grew up For my next trip nome, which boozers in Hull would you recommend I try a pint where the locals are friendly and the beer is great....
You can't go far wrong in the old town - Olde white Hart, Black boy, The George - just wander round the area
^^^ Agreed The George - has had a refurb and they now take great pride in the ales they sell . I also like Lion and Key and William Hawkes
The café bars on Prinny Ave/Newland Ave are busy and Pave sells some decent beers(at a price) If you want to drink with bearded men admiring the clarity of the ale you could check CAMRA guide-Wellington Oak off Freetown Way is supposed to be good. Or you could be like me and stop drinking and rely on your inner strength for happiness(much cheaper).I am saving up for the new Hull Tigers shirt
Agree with this suggestion but include Bluebell Inn and Corn Exchange as I did in 2010 - you can take a photo standing next to Elvis in the latter!
Old town is the best place I think, but it's expensive. Unjustly expensive if you ask me. I've just been in Liverpool for 3 days and in their city centre (including tourist areas like The Cavern Quarter) a pint and a drink for our lass cost on average £5.50 each time. In Hawkes or any other pub like that, in Hull, minimum £7.50. I honestly don't know how we can do that, and it pissed me off. I went to Liverpool fully expecting their nights out to cost more than here, and took appropriate funds. It didnt, at any point. How do they do it, and why can't we?
I've always loved the pubs in the old town, I havent been back in years. Is the Sailmakers Arms on High Street still open? That was always my fave, had some great nights in there
When I lived in Wellington Street (early 70s), it looked as if some of the Obi's clientele were actually dead.
