What is your favourite City away match? A few contenders: A) Yeovil Town 1-2 Hull City - the match that secured our promotion from what is now League Two, our first in 19 years and an end to 8 years in the basement division B) Sheffield Wednesday 2-4 Hull City - the match that had us starting to believe that after all the pain, all the misery, of the 90's and early 2000's we really could be on our way to promotion to the second tier C) Blackburn Rovers 1-1 Hull City - nothing particularly memorable on the pitch, apart from Richard Garcia's goal and Bernard Mendy's Superman impression, but it was our first away match as a top-flight club D) Newcastle United 1-2 Hull City - our first away win in the top-flight, and against one the country's biggest clubs. Proved to be one of our most important as we survived by the skin of our teeth E) Arsenal 1-2 Hull City - probably the game that those of us lucky enough to witness will remember from our time in the Premier League. As for Geovanni's goal... Well... F) Manchester United 4-3 Hull City - a loss, yes, but this was the one game that everyone wanted to be at. We were beaten in the end, but we certainly did ourselves proud G) Liverpool 2-2 Hull City - a game that we led two-nil early on, only to be denied the win by some shocking refereeing from Alan Wiley H) Scunthorpe United 1-5 Hull City - two-and-a-half thousand away fans, a Matty Fryatt hat-trick, Aaron McLean's surgeon celebration... all against our old rivals, in a game that helped send the ****ers down I) Leeds United 2-3 Hull City - a first win at Elland Road in 25 years, but one more for the younger generation of Tigers fans J) Other - do you have another stand-out away day?
I quite enjoyed the first ever away team to win at the Ricoh Arena courtesy of 2 Welsh goals - brilliant.
I wasn't at any of the games you mentioned, so it would be Yeovil from those. Of the ones I've been at, it would probably be West Brom in 08, that was probably the day I started to believe we really could do it.
I enjoyed Boxing Day a couple of years ago against Sheffield United, winning 3-2 with a late, late, late Jimmy Bullard goal.
I wasn't at Yeovil, Wednesday or Leeds myself, but I'd certainly have liked to have been at the first two at least. Unfortunately I was still of an age where I had to rely on my dad to take me, and he went to both with his drinking buddies instead... I should give an honorable mention to the Watford play-off game and the 1-0 win at Spurs. They were cracking days out.
Sheffield Wednesday away. I don't think it can ever be topped in my eyes. I spent my first 7 or 8 years watching City in the bottom tier (from the age of 6) so I could never really relate with United & Liverpool fans at school. I didn't know what it was like to go to a big stadium and play big teams and the way we did it that night set a marker. We absolutely took over the place I bet they'd never seen anything like it! By half time our fans were still coming in dribs & drabs. I can still see Barmbys volley when I close my eyes it'll forever be tattooed in my mind. Would love it if anybody has any photos of the Leppings Lane end from that night!
Forest when we ended their unbeaten record was good. I was unfortunately in Tenerife on the Arsenal game and resorted to watching it on the smallest telly in the pub, which was full of Celtic fans. By the end there must have been about 50 people around this tiny TV. It sort of counts as I was technically away.
Arsenal - was up in Hull and saw it in the Queens on Prinny Ave, Beer everywhere as we scored.....twice
Arsenal for me. I was in an irish pub near DC with my turner kit on surrounded by about 30 Arsenal fans. Since they weren't expecting any city fans to show up they gave me a ton of **** about how they were going to kick our ass. I tell you, never have I had such a good time rubbing a win in than I did that day.
Got to be the Emirates for me, the win was so unlikely, I think at the time we were only the second team to win there in the league or have I made that up? Best city away game and best strike I've ever seen by a city player.
