They love him now because he wanted to buy them all a beer. Gut wrenching in the extreme. So glad I no longer inhabit the same continent as him.

I bet they can't understand him either.

(And no, he doesn't know The Beadles)

  6. This backs up a point that I was trying to make to my Chelsea mate, the other day.

The only reason pundits waxed lyryical over him, recently (following his exit from 'Pool), was because England has produced some ****e players over the last 20 years. The so-called "golden generation" were an abject failure on the world stage, and among their number was old Slippy, himself. The best player to have been produced from these islands is Bale, and he's Welsh ffs!

So, no, I am not at all surprised that the Yanks have no ****ing idea who Gerrard is.

They only knew of Beckham because he was married to a Spice Girl.

The golden generation won **** all and were over rated, I prefer the England team of Nineties.

Have we had any genuine world class English since Gazza ?

The golden generation won plenty for their clubs. We were probably just 1 or 2 top players short in the right positions to challenge internationally (plus being better at pens).

No one will convince me that Cole, Terry, Rio, Lampard and Gerrard were not World Class. They made enough champions league finals between them to prove it. Not saying they were in the bracket of Ronaldo, Messi or Zidane, but few are. In fact Ronaldo's won just as much for his country as the English lads, jack ****.

Have to agree. Atleast Ronaldo doesn't have great team to support.

But, Messi Best player in the world with the support cast he has, won just as much for his country.
    Time is running out.

Argentina are perpetual underachievers but these arm chair wallys will still call Messi, Di Maria and Aguero world class whilst seemingly using a different basis to judge the ability of England's top players.

The England team we have now is a shadow of the one we had 10 years ago. In fact, would any of the current side get in that 04-06 team (Rooney aside obviously)?

Messi is undoubtedly a world class player, probably the best. Aguero is a world class striker - De Maria, I'll give you. On his day, very good - other days, meh!.

The last decent England side was 1990. That team could actually have won the WC, but for **** luck against the Germans. Since then, mediocrity and worse!...

If Gazza could have stuck his leg out a bit further he would have scored. We were all over them and should have won. Euro 96 was good as well Tbf

Yeah, I bet poor old Hendry still has nightmares about what Gazza did to him! <laugh> I think it was voted the best goal ever score at Wembley.
