That banner should not be used as a political stick by these people..As far as I'm concerned it is in honour to those who worked and died at mines throughout the Durham coalfield, and I include my own father in that number..However, this might yet turn out to be a case of naughty journalism rather than fact, so I will reserve judgement..

My granda worked in the pits all his life apart from 4 years he took out to fight in WW1. He didn't have to go, he was exempt from call up as all miners were. He volunteered anyway. 12 years old when he first went down & then fought in the hell that was the Somme. He hated the Germans but later on in life he hated the Communistic approach that the unions took. I expect if PDC had said he was a Commie then Hopper would **** himself into a kink. Don't know about you but I despise him as much as I hate Thatcher. I hope the twat gets bricked at the next gala. That said I expect he'll have a huge security presence surrounding him paid for with union subs.
Is there a way SAFC could ballot the union members or request the union to do so? It`s their flag not his. It`s what the flag represents that matters. The members should decide whether it`s returned or stays where it is. If (as elected) the decision is his to make then the flag should be returned with an accompanying letter saying he will no longer be allowed in the ground. A nice little spread in the Echo might be good informing the union members of the clubs reluctance but have complied with the request of the useless fat bastard they elected.

My Grandad also fought at the Somme Billy , with the Northumberland Fusiliers. When he came home from that particular version of Hell , it was back down the pit. He also hated the Commies and the influence they managed to get in the pits. But his real venom was reserved for Churchill after the way he threatened to drive the rats (miners) back down their holes in 1926. His threat to shoot Welsh miners in Newport was never forgotten either. I'll always remember him talking about this stuff (and his love of Raich Carter), which has probably helped shape the individual I am today. Back to the subject in hand . Hopper is a publicity seeking nobody , who is not fit to lace the boots of the people he claims to represent or their forefathers.
