    From the sunday telegraph....

West Ham United manager Sam Allardyce 'sick of all that rubbish' from supporters

Defiant: Sam Allardyce says West Ham fans are 'deluded'

Sam Allardyce, the West Ham United manager, has said the club's supporters are "getting carried away" and expect too much after he was criticised before describing them as "deluded" following their 2-0 defeat of Peterborough on Tuesday night.

Despite goping to within a point of the automatic promotion places with the victory the West Ham manager found himself defending his tactics after he was barracked from the stands for his style of play.

The West Ham manager came under fire from the travelling 5,000 supporters who continually sang “West Ham United – we play on the floor”.

Allardyce, though, hit back today. "I'm sick of all that rubbish," he said.

"I think we've lost three at home all season so I don't know why they [the fans] are not harmonious - you'll have to ask the fans that," he said.

"Perhaps their expectations are too much and they're getting a bit carried away, I don't know.

"The pressure is on us like it is every week. We have more pressure on us than anyone else, but we have to live with that and deliver, and today we did. Let's hope we do on Saturday."

"I looked at the facts, and the facts are that at Burnley we've out-played them, out-passed them, away from home, and all the other six teams recently we've done exactly the same, that we've drawn against.

"The only team we didn't outplay was Southampton with 10 men recently, and that's probably eight games ago."

"It didn't start off from there though [the media] - it started off from other managers many years ago, because they got jealous because I kept beating them.

"It's there and I just have to carry on, I don't let it affect me personally, I just know what's good for the players at West Ham, I know what's good for West Ham as a football club, and I know how to win football matches."

If all managers were like Big Sam, the King of anti-football, the game would be done away with. Newcastle fans were slagged off by many for (supposedly) driving him out of the club.

Now the Hammers are getting a taste of what we had to put up with. You've gotta love their fans for that chant, though.

Imagine how the fans would be if their team was playing as badly as ours was under him. He'd have been out on his ear months ago. Fat Sham and no mistake.

Could never stand Fat Sam, he hasn't got a brain in his head.

He wasn't born with much of anything, God certainly didn't look favourably on him. Devoid of common sense and intelligence, ugly as sin, boring as hell. He's got to be Satan's child.

That's the thing Fat Sam will never understand, as long as he has his teams set up to play the most dreadfully uninspired football on the planet he will be at a disadvantage. Fans will put up with it when the team is winning but it makes supporters that much more pissed off to see their team lose and play awful than lose and play well. This means that they turn against him very quickly when results stop going their way.

He really is the ultimate purveyor of anti-football along with Pulis, just horrible, so glad we got rid of him as quick as we did. Oh and he's a complete tosser with hilariously inexplicable delusions of grandeur. Him and Pulis probably get along well, I bet they sit in front of the TV watching the highlights together eating some raw red meat while commenting on all the notable long-balls.

They got beat by Reading at home yesterday, effectively rendering control of direct promotion to reading. Reading have to slip up now to let West Ham back in, and the playoffs...well we all know who wins though, the team that snuck 6th in last minute on form eg. Swansea, Blackpool, Hull etc.

When it was Newcastle supporters doing this, we were the bad guys. Now it's a London club....oh, its a bit different.

I called this when he joined them. It was similar to us in being a match made in hell. They have a long tradition like ourselves of playing football properly. They were never gonna watch his percentages ****e ahppily. Its often said that all that matters in football is the result. You'll often hear people say "I'd rather win playing long ball, than lose playing lovely football". The point is the two don't have to be mutually exclusive and a fan should want to be entertained. It wouldn't have been called football if we were meant to play in the skies!

Wasn't it when Sam Allardyce was manager of Newcastle that we got a reputation of deluded. Now the same thing is happening at West Ham, says more about Allardyce than West Ham to me.

He was never going to last at West Ham, silly appointment and West Ham on paper should have pissed all over that division. He will be sacked if they don't go up put money on it.

Not at all. You have to remember West Ham are media darlings and have been since 1966.

We had the same thing with Avram Grant.

The media could never understand why we hated him so much, really and truly it was Steve Clarke and the senior players that turned our season around not him, and only when he took Portsmouth and then West Ham down did they truly wise up to how inept he was.

Can they afford to? Bearing in mind it will cost them a lot of money in compensation to sack him and his staff.

It depends. If they are confident that Sam is the wrong man and a different man can guarantee them top 2 then yes.

West Ham can't afford to not go up this year. Next year it will be even harder with Leeds, Cardiff, Boro and whoever misses out this year via playoffs all pushing even harder and there will be some big clubs going into the Championship that will fancy their chances as well i.e Charlton, Sheffield United/Wednesday/Huddersfield will all feel they can go up as well. <ok>
