The only remaining “boutique” yearling sale in the USA will be held at Saratoga Springs, New York, tonight and many industry watchers will be holding their breath waiting to see how the sale fares.

With only 160 horses catalogued (42 fewer than in 2010) the horses will sell over 2 evening sessions.

The catalogue can be viewed here: http://www.fasigtipton.com/catalogues/2011/The-Saratoga-Sale/The-Saratoga-Sale.asp and I will try to put up the results tomorrow and Wednesday morning, along with any European interests.

2 lots that have proved very popular with potential buyers, according to press reports, are lots 53, a filly by Bernardini out of Sugar Shake and lot 56 a strapping colt by Medaglia D’Oro out of Supercharger.

    Fire away with any questions.

Dexter, I’d expect all the major players to be there – John Ferguson will be buying all of the horses for Sheikh Mo. They won’t be deciding where the horses are to go until December/January, so for now they will be pooled under the Darley banner and allocated trainers once they have been assessed.
Shadwell (Sheikh Hamdan) usually also buy at this sale, as do a number of UK/IRE based agents who will be buying on behalf of clients.

Graduates from this sale include G1 winners HAWK WING, BLUE BUNTING, TEN MOST WANTED and VINDICATION.

Results are in from the first session at Saratoga and it was a busy night for European connections!

The two top lots were, funnily enough, the two horses I pointed out in my post yesterday.

John Ferguson paid $1,200,000 for the Medaglia D’Oro ex Supercharger colt and Irish agent John McCormack paid $950,000 for the Bernardini ex Sugar Shake filly!

You can see the results from last night here: http://www.fasigtipton.com/ci/results/view/2011/Saratoga-Selected-Yearlings

    The following Europeans made purchases:

John Ferguson (for Darley) 6 for total of $2,276,850
Mark Johnston 4, total of $1,025,000
    John Gosden 1 @ $250,000
Blandford Bloodstock (Newmarket based agents) – 3, total $830,000
Anthony Stroud (English agent) 2, total $1,025,000
    John McCormack (Irish agent) 1 @ $950,000

There were no purchases made by Coolmore.

Not at the moment. I don't expect them to be buying at this sale.
David Redvers will probably buy a few for them at Keeneland September, but the majority of their purchases will be in the UK.

Results from last night’s final session:

Once again John Ferguson signed for the session topper, a colt by Bernardini ex Easter Bunnette for $1.2million.

    Europeans signed for 13 yearlings:

    John Ferguson (Darley) – 7
    Anthony Stroud (agent) – 2
    Mark Johnston – 1
    Rabbah – 1
    Gosden – 1
    Blandford Bloodstock (agents) – 1

In reality, most of the yearlings are likely to be for Sheikh Mohammed in one guise or another.
