Farewell Kevin Nolan - Legend

  1. To me, he left because he wanted a longer contract and to be more significant to a team.

I think Kevin Nolan knew he wouldn't get a long term deal here and he also sensed that he wouldn't be part of our strongest team next season.

He sort of gives me this impression that he wants to be one of the most important players on the team, and i think he knew that he'd probably not be as important next season as he was this season or the CC season. I think he prefers a more involved role in the team, which he wouldn't be getting next season, as we'll be bringing in alot of talent.

At WHU, he gets a long term deal that he wants, on decent wages and he'll definitely be starting every game and most likely be their captain if Parker leaves. I also think he respects Fat Sam more than Pardew.

It would be really petty and stupid if people call him a greedy bastard really.

Lets remember the fact that he was probably the most important player over the course of 2 seasons, and he was a massive part of our revival, and survival in the premier league.

No player is 100% loyal, and if a player in Nolan's position is offered a chance of long term security of a contract, and most likely be given one of the most important roles in the team, he's most likely going to take it.

He was definitely our most important player over the course of 2 years, lets remember the good times, and if he does return to St James' Park if WHU get promoted, or god forbid we get relegated, i'm hoping people aren't so pathetic as to boo the man that helped us regain our PL status, and put nothing less than 100% into his performances.

Bobby Robson was a Newcastle legend. Alan Shearer was a Newcastle legend. Jackie Milburn was a Newcastle legend. Kevin Keegan was a Newcastle legend.

The term 'legend' is bandied about so freely that it's losing it's status to defining an icon.

Nolan: A good player for Newcastle but not a legend.

    Good article though.
5-1 seems like a long time ago now, like a whole different team. Annoys me watching Carroll in it, but will watch it and miss Nolan without any form of hostility towards him. He will forever be remembered in a positive way!

    This for me definately.
He will be remembered as the mackem slayer - not for being a club legend.

More of a cult hero for me - maybe in a bigger way though. I can see where Tash is coming fromthough. He's one of the best captains we've had since Big Al in all honesty..
Certainly not in the same 'legend' status as Shearer, Sir Bobby, etc though. Obviously.

  9. I don't care really. If it was for 1 or 20 seasons, i don't care.

Without him, we wouldn't have gotten promoted and most likely would have been relegated again. He's been a massive part of a crucial period of time in our clubs existence. Shola is the longest serving Toon player, but he's ****e and a lazy piece of ****.

Nolan was here for 2 years and has done more for the club than most in the last 6/7 years.

I agree, he'll be a big miss and it won't be easy to replace a player who can get into double figures from midfield. He was slow and if the ball wasn't at his feet he would leave it, but he had the best vision of any Newcastle player I've seen in years. Good luck to Nolan, he's a fantastic player, and if anyone will get that club promoted its Nolan. However, this does conflict with my desire to see Allardyce fail miserably, as he thinks managing Real Madrid or Man Utd is about his level.

Tash, I think this is the best thing you've ever written on here!

OT I see your point and actually feel inclined to agree with you...He isn't on the level of Shearer, Sir Bobby or Milburn...But I do place him and his heroics just as high as Tino's Barcelona hatrick!

    Shola Ameobi = Legend
    Kevin Nolan = Legend
    Michael Owen = Legend
    Emre = Legend
    James Miler = Legend
    Nobby Solano = Legend
    Nikos Dabizas = Legend
    Andy O'Brien = Legend
    Peter Beardsley = Legend
    Liam O'Brien = Legend

and so on - anyone who scored agains the used tampons :)

On a serious note, I still dispute Bobby being a club legend though he is an England and Ipswich legend and of course a legend as a man.

We will never know for definate if we would not of gotten promotion without Nolan, we still had the best team in the division by far IMO.

Nolan was the best captain we've had since Shearer, and I hope he has the best of luck at West Ham. Sad to see him go because he was a hard worker and cared about the team, but if I'm honest I was seriously hoping we'd find a better player than him for next season anyway. I'll be pleased if we do.

I have great affection for Tino but I still don't equate him with a legendary status.

That match was legendary though ;)

  20. I never said he was on the same level as Shearer or Bobby Robson, but he's probably the closest thing to a legend since Shearer, if that's fair enough?
