Is there a Charlton fanzine out there at the moment? If so, is it any good? Where can I buy one? I am seriously thinking about starting one up. I chatted with Ducker at the match today, and he has offered me some support with finance, expertise and contacts. What do you guys think? Would you buy a monthly fanzine? Would you be interested in contributing ideas, articles etc? Any input would be great. If the idea goes ahead, I will of course start up a thread so that we can decide on a name for it. Cheers, guys.
It is a great idea, Ponders. I will help out as much as time allows. I did toy with the idea of starting up a website, but this one is great. A fanzine is something worth collecting. I think it would be very popular. I shall e-mail you with a few start-up contacts.
I have all my old VOTV and I think a complete set of GBHs. I loved having a fanzine for half time & the train home. I always worried when VOTV was owned by the club and with new ownership there is definitely room for a new fanzine. I would definitely buy a new fanzine, and would be interested in being an occasional contributor if you'd have me.
It'd be a bold move starting a printed fanzine when there's so many around on the net, but I'd certainly buy it. Still got several VOTVs and GBHs and a couple of Addickted - short-lived but scandalously funny.
CHARLTON is seriously lacking a good fanzine what about re making voice of the valley?do something simular where fas will have their input from each section of the ground and like away game diary or what they do for home matches etc etc etc or trace old players and do write ups where are they now plus letters pages
Would be good to have a new fanzine,I`d buy it without a doubt specially as it would be the work of one of the n606 family.
Thanks, guys. Your contributions will be like gold-dust. I really think this can be done. Websites are great, but it is always nice to collect fanzines and programmes. We all have a box full of them, I'm sure. I am going to make contact with some of the guys who run the forums such as not606 and Charlton Life. Maybe a bit of advertising could be mutually beneficial. JA - your ideas for articles are excellent. I would expect nothing less from a former fanzine-fanatic! Watch this space...
Maybe what you could do is look at making a pdf version so it can be downloaded to mobile devices as well as being printed. Be good to have a fanzine, why did the others die out?
I have a confession to make... I have never read a fanzine, Charlton or other in my life . So, I don't really know what they consist of to be honest. Having said that, Iâd be more than happy to help in any way I can. Iâm sure if itâs half as entertaining as some of the posts on here it would be a thoroughly interesting read.
I'm not sure why the fanzines went away at Charlton. It is a labour of love - profit is not a reason for starting one up! You are right, Franco, it would be a good read if full of contributions from not606ers.
GBH went because of the time commitment. VOTV was bought out by the communications dept of the club who ran it for a while and then virtually said that since the role of a fanzine is to keep an eye on the club and Charlton was perfect then there was no need for a fanzine. I'm being harsh but VOTV was forged in the era of a club on it's last legs in the fight to return to the Valley, it felt like it lost it's way when we got there and target 10000 became target 40000 and we were playing premiership football in a modern stadium, producing Parkers and signing DiCanios. Perhaps fanzines suit less satisfied more campaigning groups of fans. Perhaps your timing couldn't be better Ponders.
Any idea for a name? I can't offer my services to help as I already spend much time doing Charlton Live, be happy to promote for you on twitter and our website.
Fanzines played a massive role in the turnaround of football, and especially for Charltion, whose very existence was under threat in the late 80s/early 90s until we got back to The Valley. Remember the bookshop Sportspages, with its fanzine section? You occasionally see fanzines around now, but the internet has taken most of their market. If I want to write an article about Charlton I can publish it immediately on the web, I can discuss our performance immediately after the game, and exchange views, completely outside the control of the Club. Is there a gap for a paper fanzine in this world?
happy to contribute some pics .... Could start with one in response to all the negativity (myself included) recently please log in to view this image Out of interest whatever happened to the old fanzines like Voice of the Valley etc Remember when they were sold outside the ground each game
