Rogers redefines the concept of "fantastic" by dumbing down the value and potential of the current Liverpool squad and what they can achieve. By this definition are we not ...... "fantastic" plus.

    ... http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/20292420.

Either more blarney or Liverpool are strapped for cash to invest in the squad, which means that Rogers is not coming back to us any time soon, or raiding any other club for that matter. It also revises his threshold for success and job retention - have the Americans bought into this yet, I wonder, or is he plying the PR and laying out a field of blarney to influence and shape the thinking of owners.

I think he's trying to buy time but the Liverpool fans are nobody's fools and won't put up with this for ever either. Looks like they haven't got a pot to piss in and need to sell before they can buy. God help them if Suarez gets injured between now and January and he's walking a tightrope for suspension too. If he's booked against Wigan he won't be able to play against us

He's also said several times that he is going to buy in January, he's had positive talks with the owners, he has/and is identifying strikers etc.

You can't view quotes in isolation. Rodgers is being realistic, you'd equally deride him for being otherwise.

Facts are we're undefeated in 6 but we desperately need some firepower to turn draws into wins. We should be able to at least partially address that in January, depending on the quality of signings/players available etc.

Also... who else would we want from Swansea? Maybe Michu and Pablo H? Guess that shows your good transfer policy last summer actually.

EDIT: A fit Taylor would be decent cover at fullback actually, him too then.

Agree with Rev, hes been accused of late of running his mouth off when a dignified silence would have been a better, if he'd have bigged us up in any way this thread would've been on that subject instead.

Rodgers is better saying as little possible this season and just getting on with the job in hand.

I have some sympathy for Brenden, sure its comedy for us lot down here but in all honesty i think he was sold out a little bit by your owners, nobody expects to take one of the biggest jobs in world football and virtually no cash to play with(in big club terms) .

He has made some serious errors though IMO, talking the talk too much is a major one, its ok bigging up the swans players to the media but at Liverpool its results first and bullshit later, thats the job.
Im not sure if he was told to off load players by the board but he got rid of some senior players that he might of been better keeping hold of, i suspect the plan was to sell to buy but his handling of the andy carrol situation was far from perfect, he contridicted himself many times in the media and it made him come across as a little bit unsure IMO.

He is now saying that the investment basically isnt there, Martinez is a very shrewd guy and i get the feeling he smelt a rat with FSG and walked away from it, Brenden was despirite to get a big job and i think he took it with out doing his own due dilliegence,he is now paying the price for that.

That stupid documentary has made him bit of a laughing stock with fans and even pundits and has taken away some of his magic(or illusions) ,that was a really bad move and terrible timing by FSG. It has put Brenden on the back foot in terms of how the media now look at him. I think he was too quick to try and impress people with his handbook management speil and cheap tricks, they have back fired on him and because the results havent quite been there it has magnified his constant bullshitting .

People all over are now saying "time to stop talking the talk and start walking the walk" Brenden has made life hard for himself but i notice he is now starting to wind his neck in and be a little bit more practical in what he is saying. It may be too late for some Liverpool fans but i beleive if he is given enough time he will do good things at Liverpool..the clock is ticking though :)

i think in the interviews he had before he took over he said all the right things to secure the job, and has now changed his tune somewhat now that he realises its going to be a bit harder than what he envisaged.

with liverpool at the moment he has a lack of quality up front, which he will probably look to strengthen in january.

however to say finishing 7th or above would be fantastic really does show how far liverpool have fallen, i would have thought the owners would have said top 6 is the bare minimum, and the season after for them to mount an assault on the top 4. but they are not giving rodgers the money he needs, as they are in it for a long term profit and dont want to waste money.

It is not sour grapes; it is entertainment. I have long since got past the negatives of the Rogers' affair.

All comedians or stage personalities have a catch phrase. Rogers' is "fantastic". He's now repositioning his catch phrase. If you understand marketing, this is an interesting and amusing real-time exhibition in the repositioning of the Rogers' brand and his value proposition as well as the Liverpool squad's potential and relative value. What he is saying is that they (Liverpool) have declining competitive advantage with respect to their peers (i.e. us and other clubs in the league).

Park your Rogers' rosette and sit back and enjoy it with the rest of us. The play is only in the first scene of Act II. More, much more to follow. Will it be a tragedy, a comedy or a drama - still to early to tell, but it has parts of all so far.

I am not making a dig, just observing and commenting on a public figure, a quasi-celebrity if you will, who is making public statements for public consumption for which we, as a group, have more than a little familiarity and interest (he's managing one of our competitors). Observing and commenting on a public figure that is quickly becoming a caricature of himself is fair game whomever it is.

If Liverpool wanted to have a low profile on this experiment of theirs, perhaps they shouldn't have made a video to make the whole plot and play even more visible and promote the spectacle of it.

Who cares what Liverpool supporters think they see! Their club thought they were hiring a messiah, which is part of the sub-plot of this particular theater. The fact that Liverpool supporters occupied our forum for days if not weeks on end lording it up and promulgating how they were going to steam into the top 4 of the table, BIG club, blah, blah, blah .... just sprinkles a little salt on the popcorn I'm munching while enjoying the play. If they can't take it, don't dish it out.

    It's a laugh.

We never had a say on who replaced Dalglish

We almost all would've chosen someone other than Rodgers replace him

The TV series deal was already signed while Dalglish was still manager

Our board was(and still is to a much lesser extent)getting Swans fans commenting on every game we play

He'll get f****d off or kept depending on what happens just like anyone would and has in the past.

But don't let facts spoil your story.

Ok, so what, doesn't change the spectacle of it all. I'm observing and commenting on what is.

    Whatever rings your bell mate.<ok>

Considering the Swans are only a couple of points ahead of Rodgers your gloating seems immature at the moment and the League Cup win has given Rodgers thinly spread squad a more scope to focus on the league, Rodgers team has also played Utd, Chelsea, City and local rivals Everton so far and been beaten by only one of those top 4 teams, if in May Rodgers has gotten us relegated i fully expect Rodgers to have been shunted out of town and you to have 'self pleasured' yourself to death.

I never brought LFC into the conversation because that would just complicate your Swans v Rodgers agenda.

He's definitely got 20m plus anything else he can raise (don't think he'll raise anything so just £20m).

Thats from James Pearce at The Echo who is briefed by Rodgers so if he's wilfully saying it publiclly I'm expecting this amount to be spent or there will be a lot of questions to ask.
