FOOTBALL fans are being urged to park legally and considerately for this weekend's home match.

The Swans take on Bolton tomorrow at the Liberty Stadium and supporters have plenty of choice when it comes to match-day parking.

Hundreds more spaces were made available as part of the overall preparations for Swansea City's first season in the Premier League.

The extra parking spaces help to ensure residential streets near to the Liberty Stadium are not plagued by illegal parking.

Andrew Davies, general manager at the Liberty Stadium, said: "This season there is plenty of parking for both home and away fans.

"We have worked with Swansea Council and other partner organisations to boost the number of spaces available compared to previous seasons.

"Attendances at the home games are significantly higher than last season so we have to be prepared."

Swansea Council has recently created extra parking spaces on land next to the Tennis Centre and within walking distance of the stadium. There are also two park and ride sites at Felindre and the Recreation Ground, along with park and walk sites at Pentrehafod School and Lyte Ladders (which was formerly Makro).

The council will also be continuing the extra enforcement in streets near Liberty Stadium to deal with unlawfully-parked vehicles.

Before the Swans' first Premier League season started in August Swansea Council launched an offensive on illegal parking around the stadium.

As well as extra spaces, double yellow lines in several streets were introduced as part of an experimental traffic order.

Chris Vinestock, head of transportation and engineering in Swansea Council, said: "Parking enforcement on match day is a priority to make sure residents living near the stadium are not inconvenienced.

"We have made sure there is plenty of parking at sites near the ground for fans to utilise.

"I would urge fans to use the parking facilities and not risk parking illegally, because they will get a fixed penalty."

Just park in the shopping centre car park, the ticket you get is from a private parking company, so basically unenforceable and a scam as there is sod all they can do , not that I endorse it ;) for confirmation just try the MSE , pepipoo or CAG forums.

Council tickets should always be appealed IMO as you only risk the discounted price of the ticket, if you have a good appeal it will be successful, can I say though don't take the piss outside people's homes, they need to live there as well.

Strange that there are (were ) many parking spaces around the old Mackro store with little evidence of blocking access points then all of a sudden cones are placed both sides of the road leading to virgin media ,guess whats also there , a council run car park .I notice the cones aren't here during the week when the offices are occupied.

hope the shopping centre doesnt have boom gates like one over here has - have started charging anyone who spends over 3 hours in the shop car park and on match day you cant park within 5 km of the ground

I haven't paid for parking in swansea for about 6 or 7 years. Just decided one day to stop buying tickets for pay and display, or keeping to parking time limits. Haven't been caught once. If they catch me tomorrow it's fair game, as I owe them about a grand in parking tickets. Park wherever and don't worry about it
