Can anything be done to stop this? Should it be left to blow over or do the authorities need to make games be played behind closed doors or issue point deductions? Obviously those doing it can be banned and prosecuted but there have been more incidents of this over the past 2 or 3 years. Then there have been cases of fans attacking opposition players team buses (Liverpool fans did this to City and I think it happened with West Ham fans on the Man Utd coach). Or is it just over reaction to a few pissed nutters?
Today’s incident was horrendous, completely unacceptable & there must be a sanction on the club, if only to send out a clear message.
The trouble is if it happens outside the ground e.g. team buses being attacked, how much of that is the club's responsibility? Inside the ground, yes there needs to be stricter sanctions and I don't mean just money. What happened to Grealish was truly awful. And the bloke who ran up to Smalling obviously has mental problems. Who in their right minds wants to get a close up look at him.
I don’t blame the clubs and don’t think punishing them deters some pisshead. Serious punishment for the individuals is the only way, for me. I’m sure it’s a hefty fine by default but if people know it’ll be six months inside it won’t happen.
Need to have very harsh punishments for the people involved. Obviously a ban from the game (punishable by a prison sentence if they breach it) and fines plus community service straight off the bat. Possibly prison sentences off the bat, though in fairness you wouldn't normally get that for first offences anywhere else. More importantly I don't agree with the idea of any kind of points deductions from clubs. What's to stop (for instance) a Liverpool fan putting on a Man City kit and invading the pitch in the hope of getting top spot back? I'd say the only way you could justify it is if it could be shown the club didn't do enough to prevent it and/or the other fans cheered them off the pitch (which I think happened with Birmingham?).
Not sure points deductions are the way to go, but your example couldn’t really happen as the clubs knows the identity of the person in every seat these days. A game or 2 behind closed doors might be appropriate, as it punishes the fans.
I quite liked the electric fences Chelsea put up back in the day. Maybe do that again? Not for the rest of us, just the Chelsea fan
Yeah, just the same. Players walks off the pitch and is subjected to dogs abuse by a supporter, then reacts. Fan runs on pitch and punches a player during the game = the same. #blameunuted.
My point was that dickhead Gary Neville was making references to fencing, remember them, the very item that got football fans killed. But not only that he was calling for points deductions too, now regardless if Cantona was goaded, i don't remember United getting points deductions, so Neville needs to wind his neck in.
Neville is wrong in this instance about fences, but the reason has nothing to do with Cantona. Don't know why that's being brought into this.
He was calling for points deductions, my point was I don't remember United getting points deductions. Also anyone remember this dirty scouser....
