In court today a binners' fan was fined for a racist comment he put on the NCFC facebook page about Jerome. 2 minutes after posting it he deleted it but it had been seen and police were investigating. Apparently he posted the comment without engaging his brain according to his defence (If he had one he would be supporting Norwich and not 1p5wich wouldn't he?) http://www.eveningnews24.co.uk/news...h_city_player_cameron_jerome_online_1_4024932 This is not needed in the game and I hope our neighbours at Portaloo Road take appropriate action
Yes, Ipswich fans posting racist abuse about a Norwich player is drivel. I hope you're not condoning it, JWM?
Good. They should also be banned from all games if they haven't already, I would expect the same thing if it was one of our supporters. It's crazy this sort of thing still happens.
If it had been a canaries supporter fined for a comment about one of your players such as Tyrone Mings, would you have supported the action taken by the courts JWM? No matter who you support we do not need racism in the game, banter - yes, racism - no
I do not condone any form of Racism from anyone. What I do question is the OP true motive for posting this in the first place! Could it be that he's using this despicable behaviour in some way to label Ipswich fans in General...hmm I wonder! If the OP was genuinely trying to raise the subject of Racism as a serious issue for society and in football in particular, why highlight this particular story about this idiot, who just so happens to be an Ipswich fan who was born and raised in Norfolk! I am quite sure that there are many of your supporters who are racists but this shouldn't be the point. Let's have a serious debate about Racism in football but don't come over as trying to score cheap points which only demean the debate.
You mean like the cheap point-scoring when the outcome of the Jerome-Bellusci racism complaint was posted on here? Grow up.
I can't speak for the OP, JWM, but it doesn't strike me that it means Ipswich fans are racist. We had a racist incident in a match recently and it was roundly condemned. Any racist incident should be confronted wherever it happens.
I haven't got a clue what you're on about I don't follow your board too closely nowadays. The reason I have posted on here tonight is because of the specific content of the OP.
You don't follow our board too closely, but happened to be reading a thread that makes no mention of your precious club in the title? Right.
I don't see how this is in anyway relevant to the OP so I suggest you try and stay on topic and not derail threads in future.
Wonderful idea, happy to do so. Really pleasing to see a zero tolerance approach taken to racism in football. It doesn't matter that the comment was only online for two minutes, there's absolutely no room for racism in modern society. I'd also echo the comments of the OP in saying that now we've had a court decision, I'd like to see the clubs take things further and ban the offender from entering their grounds. Chelsea took such steps after the Paris Metro incident, and I'd like to see it become commonplace throughout football. The easiest way to kick racism out of football is to kick racists out of football.
I agree with all of this but I would just like to say that there should be a form of re education put in place for these people which is mandatory. It's just not good enough to ban these idiots from football in the false hope that this will teach them a lesson. This will just sweep the problem under the carpet. I believe that with a fair punishment there should also be the prospect of rehabilitation for these types of crime otherwise what is the point! Ban them from football for a set amount of time but also make them take some education surely this is the answer.
Yep, agree with that JWM. I believe the Football Disorder Act allows bans of up to 5 years, which I think is appropriate. Plenty of time for some form of education program. I just googled "Racists anonymous" with a curiosity as to whether an AA equivalent exists. Instant regret.
Not condoning what was said, but it seems to be me racism, or at least racism against ethnic minorities, gets treated very differently from any other kind of abuse. For instance, if somebody called me a honkey on facebook I doubt they would get fined. Or John Terry calling Anton Ferdinand a "black ****" is that really that bad? Anton Ferdinand is black and he is a ****! If Terry had called Steve Sidwell a ginger **** then nobody would have made a fuss. Sorry if that offends anybody, but that's my opinion.
What a ridiculous overreaction JWM. This is today news, completely relevant to our club, this forum and football's current problems. Other than a tongue-in-cheek comment about Ipswich fans being brainless, there is absolutely nothing in the OP particularly aggressive and certainly nothing to "label" all Ipswich fans with, let alone racism. As for points scoring, don't make me laugh. If this had been posted on your forum, I could imagine your sensitivity, but as it is on ours it is topical and appropriate. I would have thought you of all would have had the good grace to see that and justifiably distance yourself from the idiot. As it is you come across as someone wanting to stifle any comment about a guy who is racist on the basis that it might upset a few Binners.
