Over the use of goal line technology. Saying that there is an air of discontent with the older generations over using technology as all levels should play on equal footing. But surely the stakes in the EPL are higher than those in the Blue Square North? What do you all think of it? I personally want technology. Even if it goes against us, it will be fair. http://www.sunderlandecho.com/news/...fan-in-goal-line-technology-protest-1-4741257
Bring it on! Football is light years behind rugby, tennis and cricket in terms of technology. Millions of pounds could rest on an incorrect decision.
So basically in reality he's wanted to pack it in for years because of the travel but jumped on an excuse to get some attention and get his mug in the papers? Am I being too cynical? They could introduce f***g robot referees nothing would stop me following my team.
I can only guess there is a number of reasons for him stopping but obviously he feels strongly against this. Personally I feel that its a must now due to all the money involved in top flight games
Up to him I suppose and as said it is just an excuse to get his mug in the paper. To do this at the start of what could be a very good season possibly our best season since Reidys days is just stupid. If football should be played the same at all levels why are the rewards different for all levels? We have to move with the times different types of ball, the squad system, transfer windows, except for the ball the rest are different for all levels.
I am an older generation and I'm keeping mine, mine will go when they bring in beach ball technology.
I'm in favour of anything which helps to arrive at the correct result. Mr Purvis is entitled to his opinion but if he wants to remain in the dark ages so be it. It makes me wonder if this guy uses any modern day contraptions or is he still living like the Amish, get that pony and trap ready he may want to go into town. Frickin burk.
Goal line technology is well overdue, and I agree with the general consensus that he has just used it to get his mug in the paper..
OK so I am old too. Did you all see the positioning of the goal line assistant in the England v Ukraine. He was dead level with the ball and goalposts with one foot on the pitch and did not give the ball fully over. Adding a pair of human eyes befor electronics is the best solution.
Agreed mate would rather we had extra officials to help the ref out with these things but, as you point out it didn't work at the Euros and watching a few Euro league games last season it was fairly useless there as well. Not saying that the tech will be any better and as with all tech it's only as good as the person operating it and programming it but, we have to at least try it out as the stakes now are way too high for the clubs involved.
You also need to consider how difficult decision this can be on occassions - the Ukraine one and Carrolls in the cup final were really impossible to judge with the naked eye in real time and be 100% sure that all of the ball crossed the line. Generally the officials are going to err towards caution - anything that helps can only be good.
I agree but how big could the can of worms be? Goal line tech.. Then tech that tells a correct or incorrect offside - if a goal is disallowed for an incorrect offside theyalready have proven technology that can tell if a player is offside and it takes a second. I also think that incorrect offsides cost more goals per season that "did it cross the line" just my opinion though.
