I was talking with some mates in the Miners and we got talking about famous things individuals did to raise a cheer from the fans or some actions fans did that stick in our memories, here are some we came up with, some old and some recent. * Johnson bounce.. * East End surge.. * Walshie shuffle.. * Scotty right arn salute.. * Gibbo 6 step goalline, crossbar jump.. * Benny's famous Cap.. All great memories, any ones you can mention..
Didn't Ernie Hunt stand over the ball at free kicks, flick the ball into the air and then volley it goalwards? I'm sure he scored a couple from that sort of situation. Also midfield maestro Bobby Kellard. He had a "shuffle" sort of thing where he appeared to over-run the ball then drag it past an opposing player with his trailing foot. From what I can remember it usually worked too!
He did indeed, for Coventry City along with team mate Willie Carr as a double act free kick. The ball went in the net, but I think the goal was disallowed In terms of a memory, Wize has already covered most of the good ones, but Norman Hunters tackles were something else !!
Can you remember Joe Jordans debut for City?.....I think it was an evening match?......within a few minutes, the young defender or midfielder up against him had either fouled or upset Mr Jordan in some way or other. Next thing he knew, Joe was forehead to forehead with him and just physicaly pushed him 10 paces back with his head!...ref steps in to stop it and Joe just turns and gives that famous smile to the crowd!....instant hero status installed!
