Those of a certain age will remember when the then manager Trevor Francis had a massive falling out with Martin Allen who left the training ground without permission to be with his wife who was about to give birth a couple days before a match. Francis came spouting out with stuff like not professional, team comes first etc etc. Compare and contrast if you will the attitude of Wales RU coach Warren Gatland who has let Dan Lydiate, who is due to start on Saturday, fly to Paris to be with his wife as he is about to drop saying that the importance of family comes first. As it happens Miss Lydiate made her entrance (or exit?) last night so Dan will fly back and rejoin the team today.
Certainly different times...and better for it now. There aren't many situations I can think of that would warrant me not being present at the birth of my child. So long as the child doesn't decide to arrive at 3pm on a Saturday.
Actually in my case there are no situations that I can think of I that would warrant me not being present at the birth of my child. In a certain way I wish there were...it hurts a bit!! You boys are lucky to have the choice!
