I have no doubt that David Moyes is a hard worker and hopefully he will have a successful career at utd but in saying that I am extremely disappointed that his perceived doubt about Thiago gave bayern an opportunity to pounce in and get a steal at that price for a 22 year old prodigy. Everytime I have seen thiago play, both at Barca and the spanish u-21, he always stands out. He receives the ball anywhere, under pressure or not, does more one touch passing that Fabregas, Xavi or Iniesta, a better dribbler than xavi or fabregas, maybe not iniesta, still has a lot to do to catch up to these three in terms of pass completion, but he is a lot more ambitious in his passing than they are as he tries a lot more risky passes, but his pass completion is still above 87%, which is better than everyone at utd except Carrick who passes a lot more simple. Considering the risks that utd have taken over the years and the willingness of the board to spend, how on earth is it risky to sign this kid, because if he does not succeed, there will be plenty of clubs willing to spend an insane amount of money to buy him and he has an insane amount of upside. And then to make things worse, Moyes has now made a move for Cesc, and I am even all the more baffled because it would have been better going for Cesc before Thiago was sold because, Barca might have been more open to the idea of recouping their outlay on Neymar by selling Cesc, but now that Thiago has been sold they would be stupid to sell Cesc as then, they will have no adequate cover for Xavi, or Iniesta should they get injured or are rested. Now consider that Utd do not get Fabregas, then who will they go for? Because there are not many options that are actually available and the other names that have been linked are not exactly known to be the best midfield operators. Marchisio is not the best midfielder at juve, i would rather go for Vidal but i doubt they would sell him, Fellaini is a good player but at Everton, his main strength is receiving the ball in the air and utd do not play that style, Cabaye did not have such a great second season and knowing how Newcastle can strike a hard bargain like Carroll at £35m, it will be better to stay away from Cabaye. Montelivo has never really stood out for me when i watch him play for italy or Milan for that matter and neither has Candreva at Lazio. My belief is that the best option If Cesc is not available would be Modric, If Madrid were willng to sell and that might be plausible because they have just signed Illara and Isco and failing that, i would make a move for Gundogan or Verrati if PSG decide to recoup some of the money they have spent to fall in line with the FFP. But whatever Moyes is going to do, he has to do it quickly because any midfielder would have to be integrated in the team quickly to get used to the style of play
Thiago had more to do with United failing to land him than united or Moyes I reckon He wanted to stay at Barca but given a regular slot, the manager could not even manage the situation with his health issues and the pull of his former manager probably was the deciding factor in him leaving, the only thing Moyes could possibly have done differently was make a ridiculous offer for him and massive wages offered if the bid was accepted imo
I don't question his desire to play for a former manager or dispute anything you said, but utd had a lot longer to sign him before bayern came in to the equation and cosidering how public the chase was and with spanish football experts such as graham hunter and guillem balague stating that utd were favourites to sign him and that they had even agreed terms on the contract with Mazinho his father, then what could have gone wrong there. I can only see it as the length of time it took gave another team the opportunity to come in and swoop
UTD had nothing to do with it, we tried our best, but once Pep involved it was a losing battle .. this is why when Bayern become in the picture i become pessimistic
We don't really know when Bayern became involved. We know when Pep stated his interest publically, but the chances are he had been in contact before that. I don't think there's was any problem with indecision here on United part.
Thiago said he spoke with pep during the U21s. Munich were involved early and it seems he simply decided to join them. I don't think it's fair to blame DM
