I'm getting pretty depressed with reading various stories about agents confirming Tottenham's attempts to buy this player or a club confirms a bid was turned down or we simply can't attract the top talent.

So after what appeared to be a good start to the close season with a couple of decent signings, the wheels now appear to have come off... hmmm... sounds familiar.

No players seem to want to either come here or clubs won't sell to us, most notably strikers; which is likely due to our strict transfer and wage ceilings. Something has to give at some point. I'm not advocating that we break the bank and put the club at risk but weren't we supposed to have had a huge investor come in with bags of cash? Or was that all hot air? Seems the money isn't there after all or Levy won't sign the cheques.

Have to say that this is probably the season I have had the least expectations going into since the Christian Gross days and I mean that. It's no disrespect to AVB as we can't judge him yet. I simply don't feel any manager could expect success with the squad we have with so many positions not having any depth or cover. I just hope some deals can be done soon as these last minute buys are not the way to do things but our Chairman and his insistence on scrapping over a few pennies seems to be top of the agenda as usual.

Someone please give me a hope!

All I can say is that AVB wouldn't risk coming here unless he had guarantees that we would be able to match his ambition financially. After the disastrous stint he had at Chelsea, he must believe there is a good chance of success here, or he wouldn't come. His reputation couldn't stand another early sacking, he's be virtually unemployable outside Portugal. All this is is said with fingers crossed.

I keep waiting for the press release that addresses all the above issues, you know the ones where the deals have been done out of the spotlight. I was hoping Ade would have been confirmed by now especially with him tweeting a picture signing a contract and saying he would announce shortly where he will be playing. That said we are running out of time before the weekend :emoticon-0101-sadsm

It's quite amazing how one game changed the entire outlook of the Prem. Had we lost to Bayern you'd most likely have players down on their knees wanting to join you

Don't remind me. This summers bumper sports schedule had managed to block that out

On the subject of bids, let's compare the two young goalkeepers we were linked with last season.

Jack Butland: Made the England squad for Euro 2012, tipped to play against Italy, and being linked to Man City.
Sam Slocombe: Was in goal for Scunthorpe's 5-5 draw with Derby last night, which Scunthorpe won 7-6 on penalties.

    So...bid for Butland?

The papers have given Damien Duff a remarkably easy ride, it has to be said...

We did have a scout at that game last night and it was Slocombe he was checking on.

DL do you remember the mods banned you before for being a WUM? they were good enough to let you back on the board but I have noticed you seem to have this urge to make non-subtle attempts at winding up spurs fans.

Remember what you said to me the other day about fans coming on your board to WUM? well use some common sense for once <ok>

Probably not the best game to check up on him, due to looking at the ball behind him an impressive eleven times...

  13. To be fair to DL, though Boss, I don't think his comment is intended to wum. I think he makes a valid point, that had CFC not won the CL last season, we would be in the competition this year and wouldn't be stuck for signing a marque striker. I think DL is probably right about that.

Be pleased with where you are- you've made good signings in Sigurdsson and Vertonghen.

Look at my username- you'll see who I support, and why you shouldn't break the bank.

You have a good squad, (in my opinion you have the best midfeild in the Prem), and thankful you have good owners, and a good chairmen.

Don't fret it you don't get Dimiao or any other players you're linked with- I'm sure you'll do just fine.

Good Luck next season, I predict a fourth place, and Champions League, position place for you! <ok>

It's not about the point being right as any club in the champions league is going to find it easier to sign players, thats not in question.

And just to add to that, have we actually been turned down? these failed bids are just lies by the press, i expect we're just being tight because of the lack of income from the champions league.

if I go on the Chelsea board and start making points about RDM and making valid points, they will throw a fit! as what happened the other day when spurs fans went over there and starting making comments about their team.

Anyhow, he is definitely trying to be a sly wum!

It does make you realise how fortunate we're in but without trying to be rude our situation would never end up like Portsmouth as we're not asking our owners to break the bank or put us in trouble, all we want are players signed within our means and we have been in the premier league since it began, have wealthy owners, club operates with a profit and the premier league is awash with huge funds.

And when you have seen us spend a combined total of 45 million on crap like bent, bentley & pav and there not a whisper of financial trouble it does annoy you when we play hard ball over fees for top quality players.

I hope portsmouth come out of this, as I remember when you was in the premier league and had that "great escape" when arry was your manager....and decent teams you had, always played nice football and fans were great for banter, portsmouth are a fab club, just a shame no one seems to be able to save it.

This is why we are where we are. We have spent poorly in the past and Levy has been trying to keep on top of it. We can't even get rid of the over priced deadwood. We could go out and buy a couple of strikers but if they are not what AVB wants or worth the money Levy will not buy nor will be any use.

I'm glad we've stopped buying players for the sake of it and it's helped keep a strong team together. We've clearly been trying but agents etc have been taking the piss. I'm probably the only Spurs fan who is fairly laid back about this transfer window because at the end of the day, we aren't running our club into the ground and build for the future. Us and Arsenal will still be around if our chairmen left, Chelsea and Man City that cause the high prices will not. Just look at Leeds & Portsmouth.

Lol Boss this is how I described our friend DL yesterday.

I think DL's continuous Spurs wumming in the very recent past is resulting in many of us not believing his new personality....and I have been reluctant to take him seriously as I felt that I picked up his patronising manner.

For example Boss overlooked his comment about the Bayern match and read it as a sly way of reminding us that it was because of Chelsea that we missed out on CL football.

One is reaping what one sowed...unfortunately.

Just a side note in order to explain why DL and his genuine(possibly) comments get ripped apart by a few Spurs fans.

But yes DL not only does it take 1 match, but can take just 1 goal or error in a match to determine the fate of a team.....e.g Fulop and his flop against arsenal.

Never in History of mankind has one club tried (never offering the going rate) to sign so many players and failed so spectacularly .
