Back in August we were facing up to the prospect of a long hard slog this season. With no money, a threadbare squad, in administration and under a transfer embargo, we were hoping that we could finish 21st, so we could live to fight another day in the Championship. With 50 points being the benchmark for safety, it was only in our wildest dreams that we would reach that figure in the first week of March, with 11 games to spare! Even before this current run, at the beginning of last month, we were in 20th spot, just 5 points above the drop zone and thinking of safety above anything else. How quickly things can change! Are the playoffs now a realistic target? Possibly. A hope; a desire; but I wouldn't be putting undue pressure on the team by expecting or demanding it. For me, if we get close to them but fail, it will still have been a season far, far above my expectations - which were 21st or above. Remember; it's less than five months since we awoke to this headline. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/teams/p/portsmouth/9120108.stm
Another trip to Wembley would be nice but I cant see it. We were crap yesterday and it is the first time I have ever left Fratton park feeling sorry for the opposition. Sheff U are obviously fighting for their Championship status and had far more commitment and just wanted it more. Hang on, what am I saying? They play in red and white stripes - f**k em. Hope they go down.
Nothing Colin at all......just curious is all. You do not strike me as being a bitter person under normal circumstances, hence my curiosity. Ive asked a few Saints fans the same question The usual response has been something along the line of "I dunno really I just do". Is it the club you don't like or just the fan or both?
Beddy - I answered your question on a previous thread. I apologise for my response earlier. You seem a decent bloke for a scummer.
Sorry mate must of missed it. Yes I do remember asking the same thing, for some reason I thought it was on the Saints board and I couldn't find it. Thank you for your apology, I really appreciate that. I will go and see if I can find your earlier response, cheers.
Hi all. I've just finished watching one of the all time cricket ODI's, seriously! I think we could get to the play offs, why not? Leeds are a good team, but if we played them over two legs, they let so many goals in. Crystal Palace did a late run like this, a few years back. Sneaked in on the last day of the regular season and ended up in the Premier League. Come to think of it, wasn't that the year we won it all?
Have just read your reply on the previous thread. It actually makes interesting reading. In some way confirms the ideology which has affected some Saints fans as well. I thank you for your honesty. It helps to understand some things. Anyway cheers
