Swans stars Rangel and Chico named in Fabio Capello Dream Teams

Swansea City’s exploits this season continue to make waves around the football world after last night’s incredible 2-0 League Cup semi-final win over Chelsea.

And, it seems, some of the Swans’ stars have a huge fan in former England boss Fabio Capello.

Following this week’s Fifa World football awards, the legendary Italian boss has joined the debate on who are the finest players in the Premier League and, indeed, the world.

Barcelona’s Lionel Messi unsurprisingly picked up the Ballon D’Or, while no Premier League players made it into the World XI for 2012 at this week’s award ceremony.

However, two Swans make it into Cappello’s team of Premier League all-stars - defenders Chico and Angel Rangel.

And Spanish full-back Rangel is even named in Capello’s Dream XI alongside the likes of Lionel Messi, Xavi and Robin Van Persie.

Chico has been a huge hit with Swans fans this season after overcoming some early season wobbles to form a terrific defensive partnership with skipper Ashley Williams.

He is named alongside Chelsea’s Gary Cahill at the back in Cappello’s Premier League XI

Rangel, meanwhile, has enjoyed another fine season with his marauding surges forward from full-back.

According to Capello, that form makes him one of the two finest full-backs in the Premier League or La Liga, alongside Barcelona’s Jordi Alba.

The selections are based on Capello’s controversial Capello Index - a player ratings system launched by the former AC Milan manager when he was in charge of England.

The system assesses a host of different factors to produce a rating for each player.

According to his website: “The Capello Index was created in order to benefit all those football lovers that rarely have the opportunity to use an in-depth, objective and understandable analysis system.”

While it is a credit to the form of the Swansea pair they are included among such esteemed company, the inclusion of West Ham midfielder Mark Noble among Cappello’s world XI is sure to raise a few eyebrows.

In fairness, when you look at Spain's squad, RB is their weakest position. A few years ago, to have compared Rangel to Arbeloa would have seemed ridiculous, but now, after an extremely solid year and a half, I am slightly surprised that he hasn't received a call up. A true Swansea legend, that's for sure.
