From watching SSN this morning I got the impression that the hand gesture was first brought to the attention of the media by the S*n...probably photoshopped then.
Can't blame Suarez. Fulham fans were on his back all night shouting cheat. The real cheats were the ungraceful Fulham defence who kicked the **** out of Suarez all night and then played all innocent after. Reminds me of how Torres was treated, except Suarez has this stigma attached to him because he goes to ground (and rightly so) when he is clipped (and impeded) rather than the ball. Telling the fans to **** off at the end of the evening seems perfectly fair to me.
Not to mention this "incident" took place off camera. It's not like he ran up to the camera in front of millions of viewers and made an obvious gesture. If that ugly ****ing troll got away with that then we should have nothing to worry about. Oh wait, we're not Utd.
Whoops. Yes he did. Put still, Saurez didn't do this down the camera to the millions. David Beckham did the same thing in Euro 2000 which also went unpunished. Edit: Actually I don't know, I've read stories that he was banned for 2 matches, some say he escaped punishment and Utd appealed the red card. I can't remember what the final punishment was????
But the FA didnt review Evertonians throwing coins at our players. The FA not reviewing the ref for not sending off Dempsey and Senderos, not reviewing Suarez goal that was ONSIDE,they think Dempsey actions are worthy of yellow card Funny how Frimpong sticking his middle finger up at Lucas went unnoticed Ignored. Balotelli smashes up dressing room. Amusement. Suarez hasn't got a decision since Taggart's comments. No coincidence there. Suarez gets kicked, gets coins thrown at him, gets hurled with constant abuse, yet nothing. He reacts, KILL LUIS SUAREZ This is what I think of it http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2008/apr/23/2
Ever get the feeling the FA hates Suarez? You'd think they'd have better things to do, like finding refs that can actually do the job
He was defiently banned as he missed the City game in the FA cup semi final. He didn't actually get a red card at the time. I think it was for 2 games he was actually banned for.
The s*n , says Suarez caught in finger shame. How ironic coming from the s*n, the hundreds of morally shameful things they have done over the years. How dare they try to take the moral high ground on anything!!!
Beckham didn't get punished cos UEFA are actually consistent - if the referee doesn't spot something they don't invent a new rule to try and impose punishment after the event. He didn't get a red card - the FA instructed the ref to say that he would have sent Rooney off if he'd heard him swearing. They then imposed an automatic ban for two matches. I wonder if they'll pull the same **** for Suarez. On the one hand it would be consistent, but on the other hand it would basically create a farcical situation where players would be tried by media and only punished if someone recorded / photographed them swearing.
Inciting the crowd is potentially more serious than ranting into the camera. That said, if the crowd is giving it, they should be able to take it back - expecting players to take abuse for 90 minutes and not react is a bit unrealistic. The problem is that a player can't selectively direct their response to the part of the crowd giving the abuse (unless he's Cantona ) This is more in line with Adebayor running to the Arsenal fans when he scored for City than Rooney's volley into the camera - I can't remember if Ade got banned for that.
That's known as "The Uruguayan Wave". It's a version of "The Mexican Wave". He just wanted the crowd to join in. What's wrong with that?
He had a 3 match ban for stamping on RVP aswell as a 2 match suspended ban and a £25k fine for his celebration. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/m/man_city/8263504.stm Sounds about right for Suarez too. For a first time offence a fine and apology should be in order, with a potential suspension if he repeats it.
