FA CUP time do we want to have a cup run or just concentrate on the league The last time we beat Man United away was in the League Cup in 1968 Luther scoring both Watford goals Comedy fixture this year Marine versus Spurs hoping for a mega Jose meltdown
Not that I was around to remember it. But I do remember the buzz it caused around Australia in the media - a sort of second awakening to the fact that Watford existed, the first being Barry Endean knocking Liverpool out of the cup eight years earlier. And it elevated my status too, from being 'that oddball Watford fan, the only one of his species known in Central Queensland' to 'Hey, aren't you the expert on than Watford club?' Fame indeed...
I have mixed feeling about the draw. I always enjoy a cup run, so in some ways its a shame not to have a more winnable tie. However, if we get a good result (even a creditable, close defeat), that could give us confidence in the league in a way that a nothing cup tie against another Championship club who also doesn't care wouldn't. What I really want to avoid is a demoralising hammering, so it's good to avoid our customary cricket score against Man City and Liverpool. For me, I think my ideal draw might have been a Sheffield United at home. A struggling prem side who would probably put out a weakened team could allow us to put down a marker and say we deserve a place in that division more than you.
Feel sorry for Marine FC that the biggest day in their history won't have any fans in the stadium. For many non league clubs the lure of the cup was to get through to the 3rd round and get a full house at home - knowing that you might get on TV isn't the same incentive. As for the Horns I'm not worried about who we have got - the bigger they come the bigger they fall.
Are there different rules for the FA Cup regarding fans? I assumed it would be the same as the league once lockdown ends, that they'll be able to have a fraction of their normal capacity allowed to attend.
I really have no idea how things are going to pan out F1. Non League clubs got the wrong end of the deal - at least at the level of Marine (Northern League) - they are not even playing at the moment. The Southern League is due to restart either next weekend or the weekend after (depending on a Zoom conference of the clubs tonight).
Northern Premier League Mark - which is just below the Nationwide League South (one lower than St. Albans City).
Thanks but I meant in terms of the National tiers set by the Government. We are in tier 2 for example .
Sorry - I thought you meant which tier of the football pyramid. As far as Covid 19 is concerned Marine FC is in Crosby, which is in Merseyside. Liverpool City is Tier 2 and Lancashire is Tier 3 - I don't know which of those Crosby comes under.
