To ensure more clubs take the FA Cup seriously, why not give the FA Cup winners a place in the Champions League? I know people will say that clubs in the top 4 usually win the FA Cup but I think that's because a lot of other clubs dont take the competition seriously and even if the top 4 dont either they have the depth. UEFA may not like the idea but they let the Europa League winners have a place in the Champions League.
Clubs still wouldn’t take it seriously. The problem is that every club has these massive squads so they have to give all the players a game where they can.
A chance to get in the Champions League must be an incentive though. How many games will a squad player get from the FA Cup? Not many.
I'd have the FA Cup winners play the 4th placed PL side in a start of season opener with attendance proceeds going to good causes. Winner goes into the CL. If the FA cup winners already finished in the top 4 then the losing finalists play. This could mean the likes of one of the clubs, not in the top 6/7, getting a place in the CL. I can't see the suits going for it. It's become a bit of a closed shop.
The Carabao Cup struggles to be taken seriously more than the FA Cup, does the new Europa Cup + Europa Conference League system work?
With the exception of Everton, Wigan,Portsmouth and Leicester it's only the top 5 clubs that have won the FA Cup in the previous 30 years . The argument that they don't take it serious seems a bit mute . In the 30 years before about 15 different clubs win it .
Carabao Cup, Europa League and Europa Conference League are pointless Not many people are interested in the Champions League league matches until the last match. It would be better returning to an home and away knock out with only the champions involved Pointless matches are played for money now
fans will still watch their team but I doubt many other football fans are interested there will still be businesses happy because their advertising is seen in the far east
Europa League Final viewing figures... 2021 - Man Utd v Villarreal - 7.4 million 2020 - Inter Milan v Seville - 10.2 million 2019 - Chelsea v Arsenal - 6.3 million Plenty of people watch it.
The Europa League generates £358m in income and millions of people watch the games (despite your assertion, the earlier games can still generate £2-3m viewers), so it's obviously not pointless, it's just not as prestigious as the Champions League.
So I was right that a lot less people watch the earlier matches Also https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/football/10551237/champions-league-tv-viewership-european/ "EUROPEAN FAILURE Champions League TV viewing figures plummet ‘by 35 per cent’ ramping up talk of new European Super League CHAMPIONS LEAGUE viewership fell a massive 35 per cent in the 2018/19 campaign, fuelling rumours about a potential European Super League. The number of people watching Europe's premier competition dropped from an average of two billion in the previous three years, to 1.3 billion last year. The Europa League also saw a significant decline in viewership of 17 per cent. These damning statistics were revealed at a recent conference with more than 140 delegates from around the world. And in an interview with The Athletic, one director at the conference outlined why the Champions League may not be the best model moving forward."
Obviously less people watch the earlier games, than watch the final, that's true of every competition in every sport. The article you've posted is three years old.
Is that why you ignored the vast majority of the matches when you published viewing figures? 3 years old but showing a dramatic reduction in viewing people think it's because of the format It's time to go back to only having champions, a knock-out format and a reduction in the number of competitions my suggestion to have FA Cup winners in Champions League is only if the authorities want four clubs from some leagues in the Champions League
Millions watch it and it generates hundreds of millions of pounds, so I doubt UEFA care what someone on a Hull City message board thinks.
I think there's lots of people who think the same as me all over the world who have better things to do than watch third rate matches as part of a third rate league format That's why the league format in the THREE European club competitions will suffer from falling viewing figures It would appear that you would be in favour of a Super League if they made entry merit based given your obsession with the money aspect UEFA has a Nations League - why? money only there's three European yearly club competitions, one European country bi-annual competition, one European country competition every four years, Club World Cup every year one country world cup every four years (they want it every two years!) club Premier League, club FA Cup, club League Cup when will this madness end?
