Road To Wembley 2012 - Round TWO
The Road to Wembley – ROUND TWO

Forty teams are vying for the twenty places in Round Three, with the possibility of a visit to the likes of Old Trafford, Anfield etc.
The highest ranked side, League One leaders Charlton entertain Carlisle. Redbridge, of the Isthmian League Division One North are the lowest ranked side. They pay a visit to Crawley, who, as a League Two side, are four divisions above them.

    Non-League Watch

There are TEN Non-League sides in Round Two, made up of the following:

Step One [Blue Square Premier]: 6
Step Two [Blue Square North/South]: 2
Step Three [Southern League Prem]: 1
Step Four [Isthmian Div 1 North]: 1

There will be at least two Non-League sides amongst the 20, as Gateshead take on Tamworth and Salisbury entertain Grimsby.

    Focus on Macclesfield Town
The Silkmen first reached Round ONE, as a non-league side, in 1960, but went down 7-2 to Southport. They were founder members of the Northern Premier League in 1968, winning it in its first two seasons (68-69 and 69-70). They also won the FA Trophy in 1970, beating Telford Utd in the final. They finished bottom in 1979, thus missing out on the chance of being founders of the Conference. They finally got promoted to non-league’s top table in 1987. They won the Conference in 1995, but were refused entry into the Football League as their ground didn’t meet League requirements (Minimum Capacity of 6,000 with at least 1,000 seats) by the cut-off point of 31 December 1994. Two years later though they took the title again and, this time, promotion to the Football league. They took the league by storm, finishing as Div 3 [League Two] Runners Up in their first season. They only lasted one season in the 3rd tier though and have been at the fourth level ever since.
They have reached Round THREE on eight occasions, two of those being as a non-league side.

    Cup Run so far:
    Round ONE
    East Thurrock 0-3 Macclesfield Town

    Last Season
A penalty shootout win over Southend, after two 2-2 draws was followed by a 6-0 defeat at Huddersfield in Round Two.

    Random Fact
Germany used Macclesfield’s Moss Rose ground as their training base during Euro ’96.
