They were founder members of the Northern Premier League in 1968, winning it in its first two seasons (68-69 and 69-70). They also won the FA Trophy in 1970, beating Telford Utd in the final. They finished bottom in 1979, thus missing out on the chance of being founders of the Conference. They finally got promoted to non-leagueâs top table in 1987. They won the Conference in 1995, but were refused entry into the Football League as their ground didnât meet League requirements (Minimum Capacity of 6,000 with at least 1,000 seats) by the cut-off point of 31 December 1994. Two years later though they took the title again and, this time, promotion to the Football league. They took the league by storm, finishing as Div 3 [League Two] Runners Up in their first season. They only lasted one season in the 3rd tier though and have been at the fourth level ever since. They have reached Round THREE on eight occasions, two of those being as a non-league side.
