I read this article and for once I disagree with Solskjaer... https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/50996500 Everything shouldn't always be done to suit the fixture listings of the big clubs, many changes have already been made to our famous trophy over the years to suit the Premier League sides. If it were not for the replays that still remain today, lower league clubs would not have the rewards of a once in lifetime chance of travelling to some of our more prestigious stadiums. Take Rochdale as an example yesterday, drawing at home to Newcastle, they now get the richly deserved reward of the tie being replayed at Newcastle. Today my team take on West Ham at home, again an unlikely draw would be fantastic reward for the fans, of travelling to their place, although shame it wasn't still Upton Park. Don't take away the final life blood us lower league supporters have left.
Yeah, both managers are wrong on this one. Surprised at Solskjaer to be honest, as well. Feeling a bit Welsh today.
Got about two seasons left of replays I reckon after this one. They've also moved the 5th round to midweek haven't they? ****ers.
No. I’m sick of this agenda of fixture pile ups being driven by clubs like yours. Klopp crying about cup replays, as it doesn’t suit Liverpool’s agenda. Same goes for Solskjaer and United. How about **** off, just field weakened sides and put up with it, as there’s much more to the football pyramid than the top 6 PL clubs.
Saved me writing the response, which would have been along exactly the same lines - you basically hit the nail on the head.
Yep. And moved most of the games away from Saturday 3pm so the BBC can ponce about pretending to be Jeff Stelling on a Sunday.
What people like Klopp and Solskjaer need to take on boaard is that the lower league clubs, play equally lots of fixtures but on shoe string budgets. If our main striker gets injured as example, then we don't have another to fall back on. We just have to get on with it, at risk of losing any promotion place we may be challenging for. The big clubs have a wealth of players, they even want to play their B Teams in our leagues, until we told them to fook off.
Our cup record is appalling. Think we have the record for most third round exits. Only rested a couple of players today who have both played every game or close to it while Swansea appear to have gone for more or less a full reserve side. We’ll still lose but it’s the right thing to do.
Yeah but that's not realistic unfortunately. Something big is going to change soon and it will be to the benefit of the big boys and nobody else. I think that's a fair compromise as the bulk of the tournament (upto semis) is done pre Christmas, and the European sides will have 6 (possibly more if EL) European matches in that time frame. Be nice to get some different winners too. I think scrapping the league cup or switching to an 18 team league is far more likely though.
This^^^^^^ Solskjaer could have had his team make more of an effort to win the original game, rather than moaning about a replay. Stupid man. As for Liverpool, two seasons ago they'd have been desperate to win the league cup. Billy big bollocks on the back of finally winning the league after thirty ****ing years.
You complain about the loss of revenue but if you get a replay you want to play us in a stadium that was half the size?
Nowt to do with size just the footballing nostalgia of what was Upton Park. I thought you as a hammer wouldn't need explanation of that. Don't think I even mentioned anything about loss of revenue, all I said was we play on shoe string budgets, unless you can point me to where I did mention 'loss of revenue.' By reward I mean playing at the venue, not the finances that might be behind it.
I agree with Tobes the bigger clubs should just field weaker/young sides and stfu. But then you have the whole issue of a devalued cup. I like libbys idea that sides in europe don't/cant enter, that kinda takes the issue of weakened sides and devaluing the cup out of it.
Not such a bad thought, because then when those clubs in Europe, win nothing by the end of season, they can't use the FA Cup (or League Cup) to dig them out of a trophyless season.
