One concern, after watching the game, is RM being quoted as saying that the players “showed fatigue”.
I don’t get that as most weren’t regulars, playing week in, week out, so why would they be fatigued?
Lack of match fitness could be a factor but if that is the case then give some a run out in the U21s.

One of the commentators made a good point saying that we might tire as we are so used to having 70%+ of the ball it could mean we aren’t used to running as much as we did in the game.

Plus the warm up was a 16k run round some park near the stadium

Surely that can’t be right?!

BBC football website only has FIVE articles about Liverpools win last night. None of them a match report. Not enough work to go around the reporters, who don’t bother with 91 other clubs!

Just back from a night stay at ‘Pool overall the experience was great but the performance was exactly what I thought it would be. It demonstrated the difference between a manager like Klopp and a manager like Russ. We stick to 1 game plan. We stick to that game plan even if it’s not working. We stick to that game plan even when it’s blatantly unecassary and you have 5 thousand saints fans shouting at them to not do that. When it’s the 93rd minute and Stephens is still looking for a sideways pass instead of just booting the ball up to create something it’s just a bit depressing cause they’ve clearly been drilled to play one way and one way only.

Whereas Liverpool adapted as the game went on and by the last 20 minutes they had us completely and utterly nullified by a second team. They set up one way at the start and you could just see them adapting to our tactics over the course of the game.

That’s the alarming difference to me. I need to see proof in upcoming games that Russell has a plan B or at least other tactics. We just can not keep playing this way when it’s so obvious we have been found out and teams know how to stop us so efficiently. I think he’s done a great job but we’re in that worrying area now where we need to know if we have a manager that knows his flaws and how to beat them. I really think it could go either way, this stubbornness to play the exact same way no matter the competition is moronic. How last night went is exactly how every Premier League game will go if we go up.

Quite honestly I couldn’t care less about the media’s obvious lack of impartiality as although it is demeaning to clubs and their fans like us, our Club will still be doing ok years after the continuous and passing through of people who call themselves pundits/journalists employed by such overrated organisations.
