So the FA Cup final is going to feature a highly unfashionable club - Millwall, Blackburn or Wigan Athletic - great stuff for the competition and really good to see this seasons cup competitions have not been dominated to the same degree as most seasons
I was pretty pleased the draw panned out as it did. Hopefully it will mean a bit of a open game as it won't be two of the big five or six more intent on cancelling each other out. Typically, I've seen and heard one or two comments claiming that the cup final will be devalued and a non event because Wigan, Blackburn or Millwall will be there instead of and all Manchester or Man City/Chelsea final.
I dare say if a smaller European team (say Malmo) were to make the Champions League Final that competition would also become devalued because one of the big teams would have been denied their rightful place. It does annoy me when people think this way, if Wigan (or whoever get there) they have deserved it but I do accept it could make for a lop sided final as was the League Cup a couple of weeks ago.
For me it makes it a little frustrating. Had we putin any kind of performance against Villa in the League cup then with Semi Final oposition being Bradford you'd have to have fancied us to get to Wembley. Now looking at the FA Cup, that defeat to Luton cost us a home tie against Millwall. Again a very winable game. This season, we actually would have had 2 reasonably achieveable routes to Wembley finals but in both competitions we let lesser oposition deny us. Hugely frustrating.
the path to Wembley was certainly wide open for us this season, probably be many a long year before such a chance occurs again.
