He resigned after a backlash after calling black players, coloured players. I’m not racist, and at my age (61), I haven’t got a clue what is offensive and what’s not? Perhaps the younger generation are more politically correct? I honestly can’t see what he’s said wrong? https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/54894864
I think the problem is in his saying “coloured” as opposed to “black”. It probably is partially a generational thing as my memory tells me that it was deemed racist in the 1970’s if someone was called “black” as opposed to “coloured”. That being said he should have known that he would cause offence if he said “coloured” and should not have used that term. If you are in the public eye in a particularly public role then you should be careful in how you speak and especially not in a way that would offend a significant number of your own members.
I think it's becoming a bit silly, but the sad reality is that you say something people don't like these days they'll take great pleasure in removing food from your families mouths and destroying your reputation as a human being entirely. You just can't say it and he's ****ed up... He's fed himself to the sharks.
When I was younger black was a bad name and coloured was a polite respectful name. I’m losing track of what the latest naughty or nice list looks like. I’ve even heard that ‘Afro carribean’ is offensive. the funny thing is.. the black lads I know don’t get remotely offended by either black or coloured. What I do know is that there are a hell of a lot of soft snowflake ****s in the world who get offended on behalf of others far too easily. The world has gone soft as hell.
On reading the linked article it would appear that he actually did trample through a number of other stereotypes as well. Only has himself to blame. He’s in real terms a “political “ animal and should have known better.
I've been offended my entire life it's simply part of life, but people seem to have forgotten we all get offended and it's 99 times out of 100 not even intended... People don't seem to care they want people's livelihoods for things that happened before anyone alive even existed
so what do we call people like Son who plays for the spuds ?? black ? I just don't get it I have a friend who is Chinese and he hates the thought of being called Black
but my Pakistani mate thinks he’s Asian and doesn’t want to be called the same as someone from Korea as there’s a big difference in appearance. here’s an idea... maybe the media stop labelling people full stop with a colour. Maybe a police officer is just a police officer.. as opposed to a black police officer abd so on?
I agree wholeheartedly.. A **** is just a ****. His skin colour has no meaning to most people. He's just a ****! Simples..
A black woman (to be honest she is more brown as she had a white grandfather in Zimbabwe) referred to herself as 'coloured' when talking to me a few weeks ago. That word was used decades ago in the UK (no one used the word black back in the 70s and 80s) and no doubt in South Africa. In fact, I'm fairly sure Cape Coloureds is still used there for 'mixed race' people (not black). I try to refer as people (whatever colour) as 'people'.
Pretty sure Homer Simpson would have something to say about this like! Ha, ha....as I typed this Sam Smith just came on the radio....don't even get me started on that ****! Sorry...."they" ****!!
that's what he says and he also put another name on the end of it he keeps saying to me you can call me a yellow ****** bastard because I'm a friend I keep telling him I can't
This is probably it on the head. You see I don't think he’s done himself any favours by using the word coloured (and the other comments) however I then read an article with the title as follows: Tyrone Mings: Black FA chairman would be 'huge step' in fight for equality Now forgive me in thinking that this argument is purely one sided. You can’t have the word “equality” in the same sentence as someone suggesting that the next chairman should be black! If we want to be pedantic then he should have said “black or white” then that’s equal. I take offence when someone is “intending” to cause offence. When it’s an accidental slip of the tongue or an uneducated comment it’s not offensive as it not directed intentionally.
