Looks like F1 will be in New Jersey in a couple of years time. To be honest, I'm not a huge fan of street circuits so I'm not overly enthused. Having said that, I haven't seen the track layout so who knows, it may end up being quite good.
I'm not particularly excited about this. While I do like street circuits, it annoys me that countries can get two GPs. What happened to plans for SA to get a GP? Or a French GP? Or Russia? Anyway, there doesn't have to be a new race every year. Nevertheless, it looks good.
I'm not too impressed with this to be honest either. Sure, the USA is probably the biggest untapped market F1 can expand into, but how can it have 2 races, when Spa can now only hold one every other year? I would imagine that's the last nail in the coffin of a London Street Race too. As said above, if we have to have another track, make it somewhere new that already has an F1 following!
When I was a child there were two US GPs: East and West at Watkins Glen and Long Beach, CA, I think. As I was only a kid, I've no idea whether F1 was big in the US back then or not. I'm not sure I like this though. It's all about adding to Bernie's billions, of course, but I'd rather see a French GP or a return to another country with a real F1 history, like Argentina, for example.
I am happy with this news (although I would of prefered if the race was actually in Manhattan). If F1 wants to crack America then they need to have more than one race, it is almost the size of Europe. I do not think the 'no countries have more than one race' thing should apply to America because of its size and population. I never really got why they decided to have one in Texas to be honest, I would of thought the best thing to do was to have one on the East coast and one on the West coast, and then perhaps introduce one more in the middle of the country when/if F1 has been brought by America. Anyway this is good news because it gives F1 a better chance to get into America which could be huge for F1.
I hear what people are saying, but if there is any country deserving of two GPs it is America. Hasn't it been said that he can't see the calender going past 20 races? Is one going to be dropped (please be valencia)
But it'll have to be different ends of the year. You can't have 1 on East Coast and following week the other in West Coast. A 2 week gap would cause all sorts of issues with the teams. So do it - but drop Valencia and Abu Dhabi.
America has no ties to F1 at all, no drivers, no teams and I'm not sure if they even have a sponsor. Mifune, America may be big, but it's not heavily populated, not like China, Russia, Brazil or even Mexico. Most F1 fans in the US would probably go to a mexican GP. F1 lost a bit of it's appeal to the Americans after the ludicrous Indianapolis GP. as to street circuits, not much of a fan myself, but when you consider how wide the streets are in America, and the size of the junctions, then the usual complaints of street circuits may not apply. I'd rather see a return of the French GP, San Marino GP, Austria GP, Mexican GP, Argentine GP, South African GP etc.
Booooooooooooo!!!!!!!!! Give it to a country that actually watches F1. Love to see the Mexican or South African GP return.
I can understand the point of having more than one grand prix in America to try and crack it but why can't we just go back to Indy? I loved that track, it usually gave us a good race (except 2004/05, I forget which, of course) Do not want another street circuit to compete with Singapore and Valencia for worst event of the year.
Crap idea. They have barely any ties to F1, they have their own ****ty (and dangerous) alternatives to real motorsport in the same way they have their own ****ty alternatives to Rugby and Cricket and no doubt that will be reflected by an unappreciative audience. Fair enough having one race over there, but two... Russia currently has a driver, a team, a massive population and a huge economy but no race. France has huge roots in F1 but currently no race. Austria have a decent track with updated facilities and have won the constructors' championship for two seasons running but have no race. No doubt it will be another treasured and beloved historical circuit which is punted off the calendar to make room.
Don't get your knickers in a twist chaps. With they way things have been looking this my end up being an alternative to Texas rather than an addition. Texas seems to be going the way of the Donnington at the moment. But who knows, they may pull out all the stops and have it finished by the end of the year. As for the American audience... Don't generalize them. There are a lot of people that have a passion for motor sport and with so much on their own doorstep, they don't necessarily need to look further afield and with the vast majority of the races being either in the middle of the night or at the crack of dawn, F1 is not exactly the most accessible of sports. There is an interest in F1 here, I know people that follow the sport avidly and also know others that would like to know more... Give them a reason to watch and they will.
Spa will be alternated with the French GP and hopefully Valencia will race share with Barcelona. So theres the free slot
Not a bad looking track layout. Kinda reminds me of the Gold Coast 600 we have for the V8 Supercars. But if they are going to have two GPs why would you bother organising a second one when you're not even halfway through building the first one?
