If the current points scoring system had been in use since 1950 then what changes would have been made to the history books?

You might have heard of drivers such as

Luigi ***iolli
Jose Froilan Gonzales
Nino Farina
Mike Hawthorn
Peter Collins
Innes Ireland
Dan Gurney
Richie Ginther
Jochen Rindt
Denny Hulme
Francois Cervert
Carlos Reutemann

You also might have realised that Alain Prost would have won in 1983, 1984,1988.

Oh – there was also a British F1 driver that served with the parachute regiment in Aden, saved a few lives and tried to save the life of a F1 driver burning to death in a car. I can't remember his name but I am sure that you senior members of F1 will.

Does that prove that Prost really is one of the most underrated and unluckiest drivers?

Would be nice to know all the champions like this. I'm just simply too lazy to work it all out. Would the Schumi still have 7 or not?

I'm personally a fan of the 10, 6, 4, 3, 2, 1 system. You could change the point system many ways and get many different results. The thing is, everybody has the same opportunity to score the same points under any system... So if you lose, then you weren't good enough.

I assume you're referring to Dave Purley at Zandvoort?

Did you know that race-car is race-car backwards <laugh>

While you pose an interesting question you can only really race to the rules of the time. Some drivers may have held back at the end to optimise their haul, whilst some may have needlessly pushed on.

Still interesting though.

ReallySeriousName – under the current point system then

Eddie Irvine would have won 1999
Damon Hill 1994
Niki Lauda 1976
Graham Hill 1965
Peter Collins 1956

It is sad but not surprising that the members of this forum react to my article in the way that they did.

The people on this forum ignore the subject and react to the author. Of course the rank system that exists on this forum is more important than the subject of the topics.

Miggins is a “senior Member” so he can safely make a sarcastic irrelevant comment to a member that he has demanded that everyone “ignore”

Yet sadly not a single one of the “Senior Members” of this forum has been able to identify the driver that I described in the final paragraph of my article.

As a senior member I can use my senior powers to identify that the driver is David Purley. <ok>

EDIT: By the way senior members do not mean senior as in age as in OAP, but how many posts you have done on the forum.

If I change my name to General Bhaji, will that make me a senior member?

Either way... there are plenty of "members". :)

Senior members? Who cares! It's completely irrelevant to what one posts. They may as well be called Daleks!

It makes not a scrap of difference IR.

There is a difference between sarcasm and a bit of joviality, sarcasm is meant to offend (not always but mostly) joviality isn't but having said that if I posted something that offended you then I apologize.

On a second point I recognized every singly driver on your list and I'm just a member although I may be senior
