    Hello

I have to do a 5000 word essay on literally any topic, and I have chosen to do F1, however I don't actually have any specific ideas, so would like to ask my fellow f1 fans for some ideas, any ideas welcome

    Thanks :)

How about writing about Montoya's F1 career? :p

Or a general summary of each era since the start. What was required of them drivers and how expensive was it and how the security has changed etc. I think whatever you choose to write about, doing it from a historical point of view would not only be a great read, and easy to take in for an 'outsider', but also make it easy to find resources on.

Too technical or in depth stuff will likely bore people who are unfamiliar with the sport I think.

Good luck and hope you do post it here when you are done with it:)

Compare current drivers? Then if you dont have enough words, compare them to the "all-time greats"

Lewis fans vs Vettel fans vs Alonso fans.

What would you NOT! be able to write about in that area.

Hell your tutor would laugh themselves to death if they read that.

How about team orders and whether they should be allowed?

Or maybe about Sky vs BBC/future of F1 in UK?

If you want to get technical, maybe you could write about how aerodynamics have evolved, or how F1 technology has affected the world?

I've done a lot of essays in the last few years but one on f1 would be one I'd relish about. If it was history related I'd obviously charter the changes within racing or a particular era in f1 such as the 1990s.

On the political side there is a lot to write about. Perhaps the global spread of f1 away from it's centralised European base in the past decade and a half would be something to look at and judge whether or not Ecclestone's desire to reach out to wider audiences is paying off? There's a few successes to detail (hey look at what we had today - our 14th Malaysian Grand Prix, the Grand Prix which set off F1's wider global trek) but also plenty of failures. The almost instant flop of the Korean Grand Prix, the questions over India, and the continued struggle to make ends meat in USA (you could detail the devastating setback of f1 in the US at the 2005 US Grand Prix). You could bring in economic elements. Money from different countries is pouring into the racing element and sponsorship side of things compared to a decade and a half ago. Indeed we've got Indian, Malaysian and Russian owned teams today. In 1999 all teams were licensed under British, French, Italian, Swiss and Irish licenses with not a sign of a billionaire magnet from further out coming into the sport.

That's just an idea. But there's a lot to write about certainly if you delve into it.

How about 5000 words about Kimi Raikkonen, a gorilla suit, and injuries sustained by falling off a boat whilst drunk.

I did an essay in early 1994 for an English assignment and chose to do it on the perils of bringing in refuelling and safety in the sport in general. The irony of May 1994 and my earlier report was not lost........

So much you could do an essay on with F1. Fans rivalries, driver rivalries. Why not do something about how the sport has evolved since 1950? Lots of different topics to put in, could do 1000 each on commercialsim, popularity, safety, car developments and drivers attitudes?

How about 5000 words on JP Montoya's issues with the FIA. it'll be hard to construct sentences though, especially with 4000 words being expletives.

This is a good idea. As others have said, it may be a bit too broad but focusing on one or two, perhaps similar controversies that had different outcomes (e.g. McLaren having Ferrari IP vs. Renault having McLaren IP), or maybe a repetitive kerfuffle like the breakaway series threats, or how Ecclestone and Mosley transformed the running of F1, would give your essay more purpose. Another nice idea would be a comparison of the end of the FIA presidencies of Balestre and Mosley.

The changes in safety in F1? You've got the dark days of the 50's & 60's, the work done by Stewart, etc, the work of Sid Watkins in saving many drivers lives, and how safety standards are monitored and adjusted to suit every year?
