The 2010 Season came and went in a blur.Sebastian`s Glorious Season was a lot to live up to, but Formula 1 has an uncanny knack of lifting the bar.And expectations for 2011 were higher than ever. For very good reasons. 20 Tracks, 5 World Champions, 3 Teams hoping to improve on last year and there is only ONE Formula One and it was back and running tomorrow with testing and car launches. Three teams Virgin, Hispania and most notably Lotus.A big year for them and hopefully they can deliver better. The Daddy of them all Michael Schumacher tries for the second year to show the rest of the world he`s still got the spark that we all saw during the iconic and sometimes controversial Ferrari days. Lewis Hamilton aiming for his second world championship and alongside him again Jenson Button at Mclaren. Sebastian Vettel hoping to retain his drivers title and Mark Webber hoping to improve and go two better in the Championship than last year. Fernando Alonso hoping to go one better with Ferrari and Felipe Massa looking for a strong showing after a dismal season in 2010. New rules and regulations but the same old desire to race and overtake was still well within the air. New drivers,New Tyres and New Rules but in Formula 1 some things always stay the same winning is everything. What a season we are in for mouth-watering stuff I can`t wait for it to begin.
Good article. Have added it to the main page: http://www.not606.com/content.php/200-F1-2011-Starts-Here-21-21-21
I'm really looking forward to Schumi vs Rosberg, hopefully the old master has shaken of all the rust he had last season. Jenson Vs Lewis will always be a feature, I expect Lewis to win again, however the Pirelli tires could play a role, if they wear quickly then Jenson will be licking his lips! I also can't wait to see what Red Bull have got under their sleeve for this years car. How will the movable rear wings affect the racing, will it make it too artificial?
I don't know what effect of the moveable rear wings will be, but here is a pic of the wing in use to anyone who is interested: please log in to view this image
I still expect Lewis to beat Jenson, but it might get very close if the Pirelli tyres degrade quickly in the race. No doubt Newey and McLaren will have some interesting innovations.
Predictions: 1) Hamilton - Will have a season to remember 2) Vettel - Pushes Hamilton very close 3) Massa - Does Extremely well to beat Alonso 4) Alonso - 'Felipe is faster than you' 5) Button - Gets a couple of wins but fades away 6) Rosberg - Beats his team-mate again 7) Webber - Extremely dissapointing season, Vettel will definitely be the preferred driver now that team-orders are gone 8) Schumacher - Gets a win and a couple of podiums but he's past it.
That wing movement looks fairly extreme. I can honestly see massive problems with it reliability wise. I'll be surprised if they're still using it next year.
I can see reliability problams happening too like what if it got stuck open/closed? surely it will be causing strain on the whole rear wing structure too
On the rear wing thing, its a dangerous idea and if it can go wrong, it will, just who and when and where, a bit like a nuclear reactor, when will people learn.
