He has to go back in two years to do military service, but apparently if south korea finish THIRD OR BETTER in the 2012 OLYMPICS, then he is allowed not to do it.

We better find a way to make sure that happens then! I got a sh*tload of olympic tickets for the football, so hopefully I get to see Park.

  3. I wonder if it can be arranged for him to do it after his initial contract with us and then, even then if all parties are agreed, postpone it then too ;)

Really? In most, if not all, countries with military service you can buy yourself out of it for 5-10 thousand... Plus do you really think he'll be playing for you in 2 years, let alone be a starting player?

He'll be here in 2 yrs, whether he'll be a starter is a new story in itself.

Park is what 26? I honestly thought in most countries with national service, a call up could only be delayed till about 23-24? Would have believed he had done his national service already.

2 years before you are 30 so you can decide when you actually want to do it, clearly he has left it late to aid his career but it could really hurt him as he looks to establish himself at the top level.

Wait this Olympics thing isn't it only for U23's or is like the U21's where two people in the squad can be over 21

Three players can be over 23.

Safe to assume that Chu Young and Ji Sung will be there.

    Jayram,

Honestly, have you EVER heard of Park before he signed for you, let alone seen him play? I'm sure he'll do a job for you this season, but I don't see him as being part of your long term plans. But hey, I'm prepared to be proved wrong by him <ok>

If you haven't heard of him, then it shows how ignorant you are to european football. I know of him due to his performances at monaco, where he seemed to carry the team on his shoulders. I can't believe he has to perform national service though. I didn't think capitalist countries (such as south korea) still used the compulsory system. Thats usually used in communist and military states.

Yea, not gonna lie - I know sod all about French footie but don't care to watch it as I think it's a **** league compared to other western European leagues - So the only French players who I hear about are the good ones mentioned in the media or on forums or that I see in European competitions. TBH if you do follow French league then I would say you're in the minority. As for military service, it's still quite common in Europe too. Turkey have it as do some Scandinavian countries too (I think) as well as Switzerland but there it's more in a long-term TA role so you can hold a job at the same time.

I follow most european leagues, apart from spain, because its too predicatble, and the constant diving gets on my nerves.

Countries like Switzerland (hardly communist or military, they'r bloody neutral!) still have compulsory national service. 3 months when you're 18-20 or so, and then 2 weeks every year afterwards. although you can escape it (don't know why you would) by doing community service for 6 months instead.
