Forget World Cup's,Champions' League,Inter Toto Cup,(anyone remember that one?),and the like.

The F.A. Cup is THE tournament.

If you don't believe me,just have a look at this bit of archive footage.

A real David v Goliath encounter.

Full house, noisy crowd, lots of real mud,and a proper football. Great stuff.

Ronnie Radford become a household name on the strength of his goal.

    C'mon the boys!
Always get excited about the FA Cup but am especially up for it now that we have a manager who will put the emphasis on possession and attack.

I don't know whether it's just "rose tinted spectacles" but cup final day used to be so exciting. A few that spring to mind...

    79 - Arsenal 3 - 2 Man Utd
    81 - Spurs 3 - 2 Man CIty
    87 - Coventry 3 - 2 Spurs

It probably is a combination of "the specs", being a lot younger and before the advent of win at all costs (diving/simulation/money). And of course there was a lot less live TV games then. The build up all day on telly was great.

Vetch - for our generation, the FA Cup was THE Cup Competition.

Unfortunately, due to "progress" it sadly is no longer the case<cheers>

Live football on TV,for those that had one, was a treat back in the day,now I simply can't be bothered.
Too much exposure has brought contempt in it's wake.

"Progress" isn't necessarily partnered by quality though,Taff.

I still enjoy the F.A. Cup,especially 3rd round, when some of "the big boys" get their comeuppance. <cheers><cheers>

The FA Cup is my " Underdog Competition " .I'll hope for any non Premier League team playing a Premier League team .
The only exceptions are when we are playing a non Premier League , and when Cardiff are playing a Premier League team ....the season Portsmouth won was a real sweatathon for me ...to close for comfort

This is the biggest cup competition in the world.Would be nice to get a decent run and as Terror says, with Curtis emphasis on attack, with a new striker, we might surprise a few people.

I joined the met around then and this was my first football duty and being a big Spurs fan really enjoyed, worked many games at Wembley whilst working best being Chelsea 5 man city 4 in the Zenith Data cup final.

My first ever final I attended was Ipswich 1 Arsenal 0, was in the Arsenal end and wanted Ipswich, absolutely fantastic experience.

The FA cup is still the biggest famous club cup competition watched by millions around the world. There is no other nations cup competitions come close......This is a cup competition where you go all out to win and have in your trophy cabinet in prize position.......You have to play your best players to give the best chance of progressing...

Well that isn't going to happen tomorrow, Curtis stated today he will make 7 or 8 changes for the Oxford game.

I know and that's why we will probably lose........and another nail in our coffin........You would think we would want to salvage something like Martinez did at wigan and what Pompey did..........It's a comedy of errors by jinx this season and an indication he has lost the plot and is stuck what to do about it....

Or Monk against Everton in his first go round in the FA Cup , that was quite the attempt at a salvage operation

What is worrying is in the case of wigan and Pompey it was their Chairmen who ruined their clubs and they dropped down the leagues like a stone.....Uncle Dave of wigan was the best thing since sliced bread with little wigan until he lost the plot and i can see similarities with jinx in the way he is going.......I hope we don't end up like them....
