http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/90082 I think this is great news. One prime tyre for the whole Practice 1 was pushing it.
I think this is a good move. It seemed odd to ask Pirelli to produce a high-wear tyre, and then not give the teams any extra sets. They'd be struggling a lot more to make full use of the sessions. One off could ruin a set of tyres, and seeing as you can't mix sets, it'd be hard to do a full practice program with limited tyres.
Although veiled under the guise of necessitating Pirelli's continued development, I feel that they have been persuaded (one way or another) to realise that just 11 sets of cardboard was likely to do nothing for the spectacle, with many teams choosing to sit in the pits because of an obvious need to be conservative. 12 sets will make it a little better. 14 sets would make it even better. And proper tyres that don't throw up all over the circuit would be better still! Oh, hang on a sec', that's what we had last seasonââ¬Â¦
Good news, I'd have been pissed off if I sat up until stupid o'clock in the morning and the teams just did a couple of three lap stints and sat the rest of the session out.
