We understand that our upcoming New Year's Day matchday against Sheffield United poses significant difficulties for those intending to travel via public transport. With this in mind, we have created a guide to 'Get to the Game' for the first fixture of 2025 to inform supporters of the options available. Transport Links and Special Car Park Rates Nexus Metro and Go-North East bus services will not be running on New Year's Day. We are engaging with supporter branches about expanding the fleet of matchday supporter coaches for this fixture, if you have concerns about your ability to get to the fixture, please do contact your local branch. Furthermore, Sunderland City Council have outlined preferable rates for parking on the day, and we're encouraging supporters to car share to help supporters who may not have access to a vehicle. We understand this can be a burden for supporters, but we're hoping a special atmosphere on New Year's Day will make the difference on the field. Buses run every five minutes before the game from 90 minutes prior to kick-off and regularly after the game until all fans have been transported back to their cars. PARK AND WALK: Car parking is available from two sites at the University of Sunderland – the A183 (Chester Road) and St Peter’s. Both are clearly signposted. Follow signs for matchday parking. Earn a Black Cat Point As a Christmas gift and in recognition of the difficulty some are facing to get to the New Year's Day fixture, the Club will be rewarding supporters who scan in their ticket with a Black Cat Point, as a thank you for your loyal support. Memorial Game This fixture is also a poignant moment in our seasonal calendar, with the first matchday of a new year traditionally marked as our memorial game. This year will be no different, so we urge supporters to arrive in their seats with enough time to observe the minute's applause ahead of kick-off, to remember supporters and players who are sadly no longer with us. Captains of both teams will lay a wreathe in front of the dugout to mark the presence of supporters and former-players as the twelfth man. Both sides will wear black armbands as a mark of respect. https://www.safc.com/news/2024/december/24/new-years-day-sheffield-united-matchday/ well done very good from the club
Excellent from the club It’s a huge game, massive in our season Should be 44K+ there imo, 8pm on NYD or not.
Ya wouldn’t think over the road the exiles think it’s a strike against them and that no one should get a point …
I have an afternoon gig which may change time start! Supposed to be 3-5pm but they’re not sure yet whether it’s too early! If I get done first 5, I’ll be there. If it’s much later then, by the time I’ve packed up, it’ll be almost impossible to see any of the first half sadly. If I get done in time I,l get straight on and buy a ticket
The club's need to start pushing back on these ridiculous kick off times and stand up for the loyal fans. There will be a lot less than 40k there, I reckon.
Problem is that Sky money makes the world go around. You start pushing back, you’re in breach of a contract I believe. Sky are the ones to blame in most cases. on. Another note, I cannot remember is having so many batches of “2 away league games in a row” as this season. I wonder how many other have Boxing Day and the Saturday in between a way
