Morning all, Just to explain the 'bumps' on a thread. As some of you are aware, there is a spammer at work across the whole of not606. Dave and myself just put 'bump' on a thread when we have nothing really to add to a thread, but the thread needs to be moved to the top of the ladder so to speak. The idea is that the spam threads will slowly move to the bottome of the board and off the first page at least, until the senior mod can get the bloke concerned banned and all threads permanently deleted. It is not a secret word for mod games, or if it is, Dave hasn't initiated me fully yet Hope this makes sense. Regards to all Meastro
If it was a bot, banning surely is not the permanent answer since other bots will follow? Needs a more robust registration system?
Now Cromer, he didn't say that they'd stop 'bumping', just that the spambot has been banned. What they want to do in their own time is no business of ours.
...........this post by someone who can't even spell his own name. detention for young maestro methinks.
That's good to know. I was getting irritated Like the first time I played the green glass window game and the good line bad line game!
That bloody bot or whatever it was hacked me. You can tell it wasn't me that posted, because I'm not young Regards to all MAESTRO
Well, I guess it can't be much fun being mod when **** like that happens, but I know I am very grateful for the job you do.
That's dedication, you're entitled to a break mate! I'm sure most, if not all will agree, that you do a great job on here for us. I'm pretty sure nobody expects you to bust your balls doing it though!! To be honest, I like the fact you can contribute when you like but I don't really know why this forum has contribute access 24/7 (perhaps it should/could close at midnight). I guess the only downfall would be that our canaries oversees should be able to contribute in their more sociable hours. Out of interest, who actually created/owns the Not 606 platform anyway?
User by the name of MalteseMick, doesn't post as often as he used to. I think the story goes something along the lines that him and a group of friends from 606 were fed up of getting moderated all the time and banned, so created this place with the idea it'd be much less restricting. Posting 24/7 was a part of that. The forum has calmed down a lot over the last year, General Chat used to be properly mental, and I'd still never click a link there until you're sure where it goes, but a lot of the really dodgy, odd/borderline illegal stuff is either hidden on sub-boards, or just isn't posted.
By and large it works doesn't it? If you don't like weird stuff, then simply ignore GC, job done. BBC606 had many flaws, mostly moderating unfairly with no explanation. I remember trying to explain 'Binners' to them with zero success. Moderating of City fans (or whomever) by City fans (or whomever) has to be an improvement. This forum gets it right as far as I'm concerned. Please don't campaign for midnight closure. It's not just overseas people who post after that. Some of us don't sleep that well, and like to nose around after then.
I wasn't saying I was starting a campaign to close it at midnight, don't worry. For mods that take this seriously, must be quite hard to police when it stays open 24/7 - that's all I meant. I often have a nose about when I can't sleep, but I very rarely post anything that late at night.
When I was in the states the only time I could really post was around 8pm onwards in both california and the east coast. That would have meant that the time in the UK would have been 4am or 1am. So to be unable to post would have been unfair on me and certainly for people such as thai and vietnam, or insomniacs! As there are so few psters late at night any problems could easily be dealt with by the mods (who do a great job) the next day.
