So next year we have a bunch of expiring contract I believe.... Theo Walcott Nacho Monreal Arteta Flamini I never like when Arsenal end up in situations like this. I think the policy should be....if they have one year left...then renew or sell. Dont give away for free. Even someone like Flamini you would get a few million quid.
We should definitely give Monreal an improved contract. I think this should be the last contract for Arteta and Flamini though, not concerned if they go on a free next summer. At least then Wenger will sign a DM lol.
http://www.arsenal.com/news/news-archive/theo-walcott-signs-long-term-contract last one he signed was in january 2013 so would it expire summer 2016 ?
I believe the last contract he signed was around 3 years and a half only, wasn't a very long term one.
I remember a few news stories towards the end of the season saying that Walcott has signed a new contract, as wasn't it expiring this summer? The articles seemed to indicate that it was all sorted now anyway. I never saw anything on Arsenal.com though
the link i provided i got from arsenal.com using their search function, so its the latest one he has from jan 2013
There have been rumours of a new one, but only rumours to my knowledge (not great in this subject to be fair)
IN today's press conference Wenger said they are trying to talk to Walcott. But it will expire next year.
Ahh ok, I apologize then, I figured it had been sorted in the standard, secretive Arsenal way... I guess not!
I'm with the OP, if we can we should always look to cash in if the player has one year left. Older players can run their contracts down but players like Walcott should be sold rather than being allowed to go on a free. We have enough cover in most areas to avoid this scenario and as much as I want Walcott to stay, he shouldn't go on a free.
Meh, a few years ago, our best players would look to run down their contracts and leave, and this clearly not the situation anymore, we can easily replace all those players.
Yep, in the past players like Nasri, Fabregas and RVP had us over a barrel so we had to sell to try and recoup what we could and it weakened our team and stunted our development. Now as you say, we have the financial muscle to go out and buy an Ozil or Sanchez to replace a Fabregas or Nasri
Walcott has said in an interview with the Telegraph that he's happy at Arsenal and wants to sign a new contract
...end up at Fenebache or end up as a bench warmer. Not always the best of ends for a lot of our players. If we gave an option to any of our players to come back, they would all come running.
I'd keep Theo and Nacho is I could but they're both replaceable. Arteta and Flamini are at the age when they'll be chasing us, not the other way around.
I'm hoping that we'll find a buyer for Flamini this window, and that Arteta will become a coach with us after his contract ends. Definitely keep Walcott and Nacho.
