CP - one thing it does show, it that we've got a significant number of very talented, very young players. Just need to get a Manager now who we can trust to make them into a quality squad/team. Moyes anyone?
Great post. It's no wonder why the club tried to get Butland in then. Turnbull and Hilario's contracts up in the summer and won't get renewed. That would leave us with just Cech (who is injury prone). The club clearly wanted Butland and Courtois to battle it out long term. I'd be very surprised if Courtois was allowed on loan next season.
Moyes ???? Thanks but no thanks. My first choice would be Klopp, second the Malaga manager ,third Jose with some reservations.
Chalobah and Ake contracts need sorting by the looks of things. If Courtoise goes out on loan for another year it should be on the proviso that he extends the current deal by at least a year as well. Otherwise we sign a kid for 5 years and could have him back with only 2 years left.
I have a feeling we will be keeping him for next season if it is Jose. He's always liked having competition for the gk spot.
Raphael Varane has been a mainstay of Joses Madrid team this season If they are good enough he will play them
That is the million dollar question, and I am not convinced he will be any different to last visit.. The idea of a 100mill purse might turn his head. Better to halve it first year and see what he gives us. I am apparently one of the very few who is uneasy about his return. Not against it, just not sure it's best for him or us. We have both moved on, maybe a bridge too far. Shudder to think of the reception by our dwarf brains upstairs if he doesn't get immediate results. His history since us, is not to stay too long in one place, ours ensures nobody does. Not a match made in heaven, but, hey, hope it works .
Well you're in good company. "Uneasy" is the perfect one-word summation. I think the potential for disappointment is massive and I do not want to see his legend get tarnished. Where we differ though, is that I do see JM evolving his tactics with the times and with the players he has, so I do expect it to be slightly different. I just hope he can work with the likes of Hazard and Luiz successfully and bring on players like Chalobah and Ake.
What you see happening is exactly what I WANT to see. We have the core of an excellent team, the youngsters you mention ,plus at least 4 more ready to step up. Yet we see repeated mention of Jose ready to get rid of Luiz because he's not a Jose "type" of player. Then a 100 mill purse on offer. If he uses the money to sort midfield control, CDs, and one striker, great. If it all goes on one big name player Sounds as if it could be "all change" again,
