Just about sums up last season for me. We had such high expectations following Di Canio's end of season flurry beating Everton and the Mags 3-0. Then came a raft of new players and outplaying Spurs in Hong Kong which included a stupendous goal by a guy called Cabral (the older members might recall the name). So many of us bought into the Di Canio era and his focus and enthusiasm appeared to be infectious. Then the season began losing at home to Fulham and surviving at Southampton to come away with an undeserved point. That infection seemed to turn septic as our early promise resulted in us being outplayed and outclassed game after game until he was booted out after 7 games and just 1 point. His weird antics to the fans at West Brom last season were quickly followed by all manner of stories about his training ground antics that seemed to all-but add credence to his fascism label. Bally took the reins, followed by Gus Poyet who won us over with a win against the Mags at home. The football seemed to improve as did the mood of the fans. What followed after that, a cup final, looking good in January, only for it all to fall apart again, including a poor FA Cup quarter final showing to the f*t b*stards team and we looked like we'd never crawl out of the mire. The fact that we did with some amazing results towards the end was incredible. So what do we want for this season, another rollercoaster or mid table obscurity? Personally, I'd like a bit of both ...and without any bizarre post match scenes this time as we visit the Hawthorns again. Big hugs to all members of this Board, good luck to the team, all the attending fans and ...here we go again. Let's hope its a good one
I like it. I'd like a bit of the same but without the worry or fear of a relegation battle. Hugs to you as well shameless
A nice, quiet season, always mid-table. 5th round of both cups. Draws home and away v the horse punchers............. Simply won't happen. It never has, never will. because we are Sunderland! Why else do we get white hair and cynical by the age of 15? x
I fancy us for another final. Just got a feeling. I expect us to be safe but think we could scrape the top ten. need three more of the right players first though but I trust Congerton from his business so far. So I'm hoping for safe quiet league campain with at least one derby win and lots of attractive football and cup run to spice it up.
I was at The Hawthorns last season, and by some miracle there today ............. massive improvement.
Thanks Disco, I hate the pre-season rumours and all the crap that goes with it. I decided not to Google and Youtube every player we were linked with, apart from that work has kept me busy, plus a brilliant long holiday with the family. Beyond the occasional cursory glance at Newsnow, I haven't followed the drama at all this time around. As for this Board, yeah, I stayed away and read very little beyond the 'done deal' thread. I watched the first half on a sh!tty and barely watchable link yesterday which was pretty dire as Sunderland away displays go, so went to the pub and watched West Ham and Spurs instead. Got back to hear we'd drawn when I anticipated worse ... Here's to better results and performances to come
