I RECKON HE HAS UM LINED UP TO COME IN. Bristol City head coach Sean OâDriscoll will seek to bolster his squad when the window for emergency loans reopens on Friday. OâDriscoll has made just one permanent addition to his squad since succeeding Derek McInnes last month, recruiting right-back Brendan Moloney on a free transfer from Nottingham Forest. Sean O'Driscoll Having stayed his hand while the January transfer window was open, the 55-year-old Midlander is now expected to move quickly to supplement a squad that has been weakened by injury to key players. And a right-sided centre-half is a priority after veteran defender Louis Carey sustained a knee injury in last weekendâs 2-0 defeat at Blackburn Rovers. Although the Bristolianâs injury is not as serious as first feared, he remains a doubt for Saturdayâs npower Championship clash with Nottingham Forest at Ashton Gate. Stephen McManus has returned to Middlesbrough, Matthew Bates is out of contract and, if Carey fails to recover in time, James Wilson will be the only right-sided centre-back available to OâDriscoll. Wilson replaced the injured Carey at Ewood Park last Saturday and was at fault for Blackburnâs second goal, scored by Jordan Rhodes. OâDriscoll has already confirmed his intention to do business in the loan window and he is scouring the market for a dominant central defender. An alternative option might be to offer Bates another short-term deal to provide vital cover. The former Middlesbrough defender only recovered from a flu bug a week ago, since when OâDriscoll has been assessing him in training. Alternatively, Cityâs head coach could field Lewin Nyatanga alongside Liam Nyatanga at the heart of the back four this weekend. But both are left-footed and OâDriscoll will want to avoid unbalancing a defence that has kept just one clean sheet all season.
Probably the phone lines have been hot all week arraging for the player/players he wants to be here on Friday.
How on earth do you determine an emergency loan player or is it just a way of saying players to bolster your squad? I didn't realise that the emergency tag was part of this added window and am somewhat skeptical of it's validity in a pure and honest context. Don't get me wrong because I think we need all the help we can get to help our difficult quest to retain our Championship status. I suppose our very limited budget combined wiith our commitment to the FFP regulations have left us with no other choice than this chosen path. How many emergency loan players are teams allowed to bring in and on what basis are those numbers based. Is there a panel that decides what numbers a team is allowed to add to the roster, or is it based solely on the honesty of each club? Bet there's never been abuse of the system - lol.
