The rearranged game has been announced today. Have a couple of bad results and there will be less than 7,000 bums on seats for this one.
The patience of a lot of fans has run out I'm afraid. I was really disillusioned when Ben Garner said a top 6 place would be an over-achievement, 2 days after the transfer window closed. That sounded just like throwing in the towel, and gave his players an excuse to justify failure. If Garner feels he's been betrayed or lied to, he should stand up and say so. Some say other teams have 'worked us out'. Blimey that was quick. Most of them haven't played us yet. Working a team out usually takes half a season.
Seems likely Aneke is on the bench, so hopefully if we can keep parity until the last 20 minutes, the Big Man will come on and get us 3 points, otherwise it's another stage on the slippery slope.
I'm expecting us to get a caning I'm afraid First home defeat in the league, maybe 1-4 and plenty of discontent... I'm mentally prepared for League Two, whether that be down to administration, or just being very poor.
Just seen a Twitter poll where the majority of Charlton fans are expecting a loss. Exeter have a couple of lively strikers and our defence is porous so we're sure to concede. Means we need to score twice .
This is not surprising. Having not win in 7, or 8? playing anybody is going to be very difficult. If the odds are decent I'm sticking £10 on Exeter.
Dunno haow many without a win now, and Exeter are a tidy outfit - sort of what I guess we were hoping for before the transfer window closed. So I'll go for a sneaky 2-1 win in front of a mostly deserted Valley, not because there's any logic to it, or the stats remotely favour us, but it just seems like time we got an unlikely win. If we lose, I'll see you all saturday
8 winless now, 9 if you include the defeat to Colchester in the JPT whatever. Any kind of win tonight will be something of a miracle. Exeter are going to have to have a reall off day.
Garner- "I'm trying to find a system that suits the players I have" just about sums it the chaos. Fingers crossed he finds it tonight.
The consensus just after the window closed was that we had brought in some OK players (some of them at least obviously wanted by Garner) and that the only major shortfall was no striker coming in after Conor Washington had been moved on. Many concluded that this weakness would scupper our chances of challenging for the top 6. Few anticipated that Ben Garner would throw in the towel 48 hours afterwards, and that Charlton would be plummeting towards relegation just six weeks later. I still believe our squad and first team is better than 18th place and no wins in 8 games. So I can only conclude that they are not being motivated or trained well, by a manager too busy feeling hard done by and sorry for himself. What @The Penguin has posted BG has said before this game gives me no reason to change my view.
